Could I load metal bbs into my airsoft guns? Would it damage them? Does it make a difference between electric and spring?

Logically I don't think that it would make a difference, but maybe I'm overlooking something.

Some of the parts inside an airsoft pistol are made of plastic. Feeding metal bbs instead of plastic could accelerate wear and possibly even cause damage.

Just don't shoot it at people.

I got shot with a plastic BB from one, and it HURT. It was only a pistol too. (I'd imagine that a long gun would hurt more)

Left a nice welt that has turned into a bruise.

Air soft pistols use 6 mm "BB's"(.23-.24 in). Common metal BB's are .177 in (4.5mm).
Can't see it working too well either functionally or accurately.

You can get more info here (http://www.mfiap.com/airsoft/airsoft.htm#airsoft).
