Legal residency requirements for handgun purchase (TX)?

As many know, I made the move from Sacramento PRK to San Antonio TX.
I have not got my TX DL yet and I am wondering what I would have to do to buy a handgun here. I know you go in and do the NICS - but if I only have a CA DL, will they sell to me? I have a 13month lease I may be able to use to show I now live here.
Do I have to wait 6mos or something?
I know that after GCA 1968, you can only buy a handgun in your own state, how is this determined in my situation?

Pendragon -- congrats! Since I have the same move (back to the state of my birth!) in the not-too-distant future, I have some hearsay for you. IIRC, TX establishes residency at the 90-day mark. Firearms purchases, if I'm not mistaken, require a TX DL, and at least one place I went to drool last time I was out there posted that further proof of residency (utilities bill, car registration, etc., for example) was required. Best bet is to get the car registration and driver's license stuff taken care of ASAP.
Others feel free to chime in and correct any obvious errors!

I don't remember if it's 90 days or 180 days, but you will need to apply for your new DL immediately. The residency requirement is not met until you have established your identity and location of residence, which is easily accomplished with your new DL. Be prepared. You will need to have your old DL, possibly a birth certificate, and it always helps if you have a copy of your closing statement (if you've bought a home).
You might want to drop by the local Tx Dept of Public Safety office and let them tell you exactly what they will need. Our local office is usually pretty nice about things like that.
Thanks!

Congratulations on your return to the United States!
When I moved to Colorado, I was told in a gun shop I needed to be a resident for thirty days before I could buy firearms. I presented my brand new Colorado driver's license about half an hour later, and the sale went through the state checking system in five minutes.
It's my understanding the thirty-day requirement for a permit to carry concealed hand guns is taken somewhat more seriously—but that might not be the case, too.
