Just wanted to let everyone know that a 40 grain sierra varminter h.p. over 15.8 grains of lil gun in remington brass with 71/2 primers is a very very very accurate load through a cz 527 and it's no pipsqueek. :neener:

19 grains of Reloader #7,
CCI BR4 small rifle primers
40 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips
are even more accurate.

I also have a CZ 527 in 221 Fireball. It is a real shooter. I tried a lot of different powders and settled on 2400. It's very accurate, as were many others, but the barrel remains cooler much longer with 2400 than with other powders I tested.
Here is what my 12 year old son can do with a CZ 221 at 100 yards.

If you have some 2400 laying around, give it a try, you may like it.

My internet is too slow to upload pics of the groups i shot but they are similar to the ones you showed. the 35 grain vmax shot in the same place but didn't seem to be as stable. I like lil gun because i get more velocity but it still doesn't cause a pressure spike. Thanks for your suggestions but lil gun is the only powder i have other than h4895

for some reason the 40 gr nosler bt and 40 gr vmax caused my primers to blow out although it was within the col listed on the manual.

+1,
I have three, a CZ 527 221 Fireball $550, a CZ 550 FS 6.5x55 $575 and a CVZ 550 American 9.3x62(my first) $525. I know the price has gone way up, but I still think they can be had for less that $700. Both the 221 and 9.3 came with rings, the FS did not. I just wish they came in a few more cartridges, maybe a nice 7x57.

Had my new cz 527 221 out today. It was around 20 and sunny. It was my third time out this winter since I bought the new cz. I loaded up with some 55 gr hornady sp with 16.2 gr. imr 4198 and rem 7 1/2 primers. my first 2 groups of 3 shots were right on. I think this thing is going to be a fun lil shooter. Both groups were at 100 yds

Good deal, what kind of rest did you use?

I used a Bench Master rest. my chrono clocked the loads at an average of 2750 fps. I'm not normaly having such good groups but this rifle is a joy to shoot. For some reason it just feels good and I like the light pull on the set trigger.

That single set trigger on the CZ is sweet. I think it's the best factory trigger on the market. If you get a chance try some 40 grain bullets. Velocity will jump up quite a bit. I went through a few pounds of 4198 but ended up with Reloader #7 as the go-to powder for my Fireball.
Snakeman - did you chrony your loads?

Sounds good on the 40 gr bullets. The only reason I used 55 gr hornady and the imr 4198 is it was all I had. Powder primers and bullets are running thin here in Alaska. Myself and 4 other guys placed an order from Natchez so I will have some lil gun, RL7, AA1680, along with other powders for my larger rifles. I look forward to trying some of those loads I have read about. I did find some 40 gr and 50 gr noslers a couple of days ago. It seems these fireball shoot most everything well i'm impressed :)

You might want to stick with the 55 grainers in the Fireball if you go after Moose and Bear!

hard to beat reloder7 and H322in the 221 fireball. i shoot a t/c contender in 221 fireball, one of my barrels is a 24" bull custom shop barrel and the other is a factory 221 fireball 10" bull barrel.
the 10" shots 1 hole 5 shot 100 yard groups all day long (1 hole=all in same hole) shooting a hornady 52gr match HP sitting on top of 19.5gr of H322,CCI magnum small rifle primer and remington 221 fireball factory brass, seated to 1.83"
it also shoots the same 1 hole groups with a nosler 40gr ballistic tip sitting on top of 19gr of reloder7,CCI small rifle mag primer, and factory 221 fireball brass, seated to 1.83".
coincidentally, the guys at nosler are 221 fireball freaks (like us) and there "go-to" load is 40gr nosler ballistic tips sitting on 18gr or 19gr (19 for that little extra velocity) of reloder7,CCI small magnum rifle primer, factory 221 remington fireball brass. this load has always shot 1 hole groups in any and all of the 221 fireballs ive ever shot.
my 24" custom shop barrel shoots the same load ,same groups, etc, but also shoots 55gr hornady ballistic tips into 1 hole 5 shot 150 yard groups sitting on top of 19gr of H322,CCI small magnum rifle primer and factory remington 221 fireball brass seated 1.85"
i know it isnt 221 fireball, but another killer load is for 22 hornet.a 50gr speer TNT hollowpoint sitting on 12gr lilgun with magnum pistol primers is a 1 holer all day. for K hornet, just up the lilgun to 13gr
USE THESE LOADS AT YOUR OWN RISK. WHILE THESE LOADS MAY BE SAFE IN MY GUN, THEY MAY NOT BE SAFE IN YOURS.ALWAYS WORK YOUR OWN LOADS UP, AND WHEN TRYING LOADS YOU SEE ANYWERE ,ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO REDUCE ALL LOADS BY 10% AND WORK YOUR WAY UP FROM THERE.

AgentOrange , Nosler did not use small rifle magnum primers in there loads for the .221FB, they used Federal 205M which is a small rifle match primer. Thought this shoud be pointed out.

The Fireball is one of those cartridges where you can see a difference by using different primers. I like the CCI BR-4 primers for the best accuracy followed by Remington 7 1/2 primers, but CCI 400 primers are more readily available so I tend to use them the most. My gun is a Rem 700 LVSF with a replacement Boyd's stock. This is it.
