None of the articles and threads I've read about the Makarov talk about the strength required to operate the slide. Would a women with small hands and average strength have difficulty with this pistol. She tried a new Bersa, nope. Went back to the revolver.

I'm asking here because we don't have a shop within a hundred miles that would have them to try out. I'd probably have to go to Denver (5 hours).

I guess if doesn't work out I could keep it for myself.:D

I am not sure I could tell you. My wife isnt a gun fan and she has never messed with a Mak. I could ask her to rack the slide and see what her comments are.

Regardless of the outcome it would be a good idea to let her hold it and test it for herself.

However, I have had a bersa .380 and the spring strength on the Mak isn't any lighter.

The Bersa .380 is a direct blowback pistol made very similar to a Mak. If she cant operate the Bersa ... she probably wont be able to work the slide on the Mak. Sorry... the Mak is a great little pistol.

Yup. My girlfriend has a real tough time with my Mak. It's a pretty stiff one to rack.

It depends on technique. I have coached truly crippled students on how the slide is racked, with good success.

Hold the weapon close to your body, and simultaneously move the slide rearward as you thrust the frame forward.

If you're into karate, the movement is accompanied with a loud HAI!

I bought my wife a Smith revolver. The easiest and simplest is the best.

Even though I've had a dozen Maks.
