I am thinking of purchasing a Stoger side by side and would like to hear from you. It is an inexpensive gun but I have heard they are fairly reliable.
I am thinking about a 20g coach for a brushbuster when I hunt Grouse.

Thanks.
:)

Love my Uplander. Got it because it was priced right, and it wouldn't break my heart if it got scratched up while being dragged through the brush. I had checked with some Cowboy Action shooters who swore by their Stoegers, and shot theirs quite a bit without any complaints.

great guns, if a bit rough when you bring one home.

IF you go ahead with the purchase..... keep this LINK (http://www.marauder13.homestead.com/files/Stoeger.html) handy. it's instructions from a CAS shooter on how to smooth a stoger out to more "acceptable levels". some of the techniques would NOT be needed for a gun that is being used for upland hunting... in fact one of them (shortening the little rod that puts the safety on when you open the gun) i personally wouldn't do for love nor money.

those instructions if followed completely would result in a complete action job and "race tuning" for a stoeger. all i ever did to mine was smooth all the metal to metal contact points that might cause trouble in opening and closing, and then spend an anfter noon with a good shoot-em up, and two snaps, shootign the bad guys on the screen (ie cycling the action and dryfiring to get all teh springs etc "broke in")

I had a 12g coach gun, thing was built like a tank, i probably could have killed it if abused it for a couple of years straight, but i doubt regular use adn proper care would have EVER resulted in an "aw heck i gotta buy a new one" type of failure or damage.

I have one in 12 ga.

Hurts like a mutha to shoot it with anything other than light loads.

Poor fit to my ol' bod probably has a lot to do with it.

I asked about the durability of them a few years ago when I first bought it and recieved a few emails/comments from the Cowboy shooters saying they are holding up just fine.

Mine has held up fine.

To be fair though,,,,,,, that's probably due to the fact that I haven't shot it since Fall of 1999 when I ran half a box of S&B 00 buck loads through it.
;) (See my second sentance for the why)

I love my model 2000, but all of my slighter statured friends say it is too long for them. I recommend that you try it out and see how it fits on you.

I have found it to be a reliable and easy to maintain shotgun, I even use it for skeet and trap on occasion to stay comfortable with it. I am giving some thought to buying the slug barrel for it since I do not hunt turkey as often as I used to..
