lets just say the shtf , whether it be millitary, social upheaval, zombie apocalypse, or any other situation and you can only take 2 guns with you plus whatever else you may need, what would you bring?

probably a remington 870 mag 12 ga. and a keltec plr 16 it is chambered in 5.56/.223 30 rd. mag, and is a pistol. that way i can hide it fairly easily, but still have pretty good accuracy, and plenty of amo available (military also uses same amo)

I guess it would be my Colt AR15 , being that in a true SHTF , I'd be looking to carry A LOT of ammo and .223 ammo would be more available then ammo for my M1A or AKs.
The 2nd would be a handgun -- either my ParaOrdnance Limited P-14 .45acp {14 rds.} or my EAA Elite MAtch 9mm { 18rds.} ---- I just LOVE my .45s and 10MMs but again , there should be more 9mm ammo to liberate.
My Saiga S-12 and other SGs would have to sit out a true SHTF -- ammo being to bulky to carry a sheetload.

Just two,,, then I'd select a revolver and a long gun using the same ammo. Both would be .357 magnums... S&W model 327 TRR8 [8 shot revolver] and Winchester model 94 Trapper.
Unless I was in Alaska during a grizzly bear zombie apocalypse. In which case I'd want my 500 S&W revolver and T/C Pro Hunter w/Katahdin 500 S&W barrel. And a wheelbarrow for the ammo :)
Would also take GPS [loaded with topo maps], compass, windproof lighter, knife, fishing hooks w/line, nylon parka, and 30' of parachute cord.

Too old, broken and tired to lug a bunch of stuff around. My plan includes my TV , an Easy-boy, a six pack and an AK in my lap. I’ll survive longer then the first few coming through the door.

why would it get locked? am i violating some rules by this?
Why am I limited to only 2 guns? Most of mine are kept in the same place.
just considering the circumstance where you would have to be on foot and you can't stay at home, it would seem carrying a pistol and a long arm would be the way to go.
personally i'd carrying a glock 19 due to reliability and availability of ammo elsewhere should I run out, and an ar15 because parts and ammo are available in alot of places should i need them.

Engintech, why the surprise? The OP just asked a simple question, and the replies seem to be legite. I could see maybe moving it to "strategies and tactics" since it isn't limited to handguns, but other than that...
I would take my Mini-14 because a guy needs a reliable rifle, and my M&P.40 for concealment.

ARs and AKs.. Also, they would be great because its most likely if we had a zombie attack, that the BG's would be carrying the same weapons.. ONce you take out your BG, you can horde their guns and ammo and keep stocking up.. Trust me, buying more ammo at your local store isn't going to be feasible when this Ultra SHTF scenario arises.

A glock 22 with as many mags and rounds as I could find. You cant beat the reliablity and durability of a glock. They can shoot the nastiest of rounds and keep on trucking. Ive put 5000 rounds through mine and only misfed once in the academy due to a faulty reload. The second would be a ruger 10-22 with a fully automatic kit installed along with as many 50 round mags as I could find. The rounds are cheap, light, and you can put 10,000 rounds on you easily. The 22 lr is not an armor piercing round but in the event of social upheaval, your not going to be fighting the government, you will be fighting your neighbor for your groceries. A 22 lr is very deadly when aimed properly. No recoil makes for better accuracy. Give me ten rounds of 22 lr and I will give you 10 7.62's. On full auto I guarantee that I will hit you ten out of ten with a 22 lr but the ak will be all over the place.

A good sidearm...a .22 rifle...and a strong, top quality fixed-blade knife. In an Out-in the-Woods/Roughin' it survival situation, you'll have more need for a good knife and a .22 rifle than about any other hardware.

I used to think that I would take any number of my large caliber handguns or my Mossberg 500... That is until I saw one of these numbers:
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3686/saiga12cshotgunbig.jpg
The Saiga 12 is a magazine fed, semi-auto, 12-gauge shotgun, based on the bullet-proof AK-47 design. Just imagine having dozens of magazines filled with slugs and OO-buckshot just waiting for SHTF day. Another side benefit is that 12-gauge shells can be found EVERYWHERE... Even your local Wall Mart has it stacked to the ceiling.

In terms of weapons and the ones I have on hand and for any foreseeable use, hmmm... One would have to be a shotgun and I guess I'd take my Nova 12 gauge pump, along with birdshot, buckshot and rifled slugs. The second firearm makes for my hardest choice but, in the end, I guess I'd opt for my Ruger SuperSingleSix s/a, s/s revolver with both cylinders (.22lr and .22 Magnum), along with a few bricks of ammunition. And I'd do a lot of second guessing and weeping for the ones left behind on the way away though, like others, I'm not so sure I'd go anywhere.

I guess if something happened that forced me to bug out instead of bunker down I'd go with my .357 Magnum Smith and Wesson Revolver. I'd want something reliable and with a common ammunition type.
The second gun would depend on the situation. But for most situations I'd probably take the M1A. Once again reliability and a (somewhat) common ammunition type (of all my rifles with the exception of my AR-15 it's got the most "normal" round). But my AR-15 would be a close contender.

For me it would be my PardnerPump 12 gauge and my Springfield XDM 9mm; for my fiance it would be her Bushmaster M4 and her 3 Siberian Huskies haha.
If the stuff really hit the fan in a real hurry id finally get to test out my Emergency Kit that i assembled for the back of my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. It consists of MRE's, my XDM and 350 rounds, clothes, lights, my fiances M4 and 650 rounds, my 12 guage and 200rounds, gun rigs holsters etc., maps, stuff for the dogs, lights, water treatment kit, couple Ka-Bars, small tent, medical kit, sleeping bag, $250cash, passports, etc. Soon it will also contain bio warfore suits, when i can afford them. It all fits (except for the guns) in a large(huge!) camo buffle bag that sits in a locked closet right next to the front door so its grab and go. I removed the seat from the back of my jeep so i can fit both the gear and my dogs reletively easily and quickly.
I guess you could say im paranoid, but in this current day and age you cant be to ready or careful; plus it gives me piece of mind when i go to bed at night.
Bring it on terrorists and zombies!!! I'll be ready!

First one is one of my .22 rifles. I can literally carry 1000 rounds easily. Not the most powerful round but it can kill game and be used as a defensive weapon.
The second would be either a 9mm handgun or a 5.56mm rifle. Because there are military stockpiles of those rounds all over the US.

no worries florida, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, thats what freedom of speech is about isn't it?
I can see where these threads get repeditive but when you think about it its about as repeditive as shooting a gun, as long as those involved enjoy it then why not :)
do the wife and kids each get to carry two?
cant i just use kevlar siding on my house?
sure why not, the idea was to carry something you own (or will own very soon) and the 2 gun limit was just based on logically if you had to carry lots of other needed supplies how many guns could you really carry?
as for the kevlar, if you can afford it why not, personally I'd probablly spend the money on meat to draw the zombies near for target practice.

"zombie apocalypse".... Wow, someone's got quite the creative imagination on them...
To give your gun-porno-daydreams some substance, in my opinion it comes down to "calibers", more than specific firearms, to ensure that you have a firearm thats compatable with the ammunition which you are most likely to come across.
A person can only carry so much ammo, and last time I checked, zombies don't go down easy... Not to mention you also need to carry food, sleeping bag, medical, etc... One could have the most reliable 10mm Sig pistol out there, but once your outta ammo...it's a paperweight.
.22, .223, .308, 30-06, 9mm, .44 mag, .45, .357/.38 and 12ga are the most popular...
The last thing you'd want to look at is "what happens"...if China decides to invade, then adding 7.62 Russian to the list is a good idea. If its martial law, rest assured the gov't will be after every last 5.56mm round they can get their hands on...
30-06 is a great caliber because nearly everyone has one and the father away one is from the firefight/danger, the better then chance you get to live to see another one... .44mag is another because one shot, someone's going down, and in a LA rifle, you know u wont blow throug rounds and live a lot longer. If you start looking at pistol calibers first, your getting waayyy too close to the action to expect to survive long...
Just my two cents, but seriously, threads like this are meant for some other website. To paraphrase Deciderius Erasmus "War is delightful to those who have had no experience of it."

An HK32 chambered in 7.62x39 (because for some reasone everyone outside of the US likes this round) with a 6-15x50 scope; and a HK Mk23 SOCOM pistol. The 32 provides long range shooting capabilities in a caliber that will be available until the sun doesn't rise; and the SOCOM does a good job of putting down anything that fallis within close range.

This is an easy one.....M4 and my trusty 1911. The rest of them would be packed up behind me in my 5th wheel trailer along with every bit of ammo and all the reloading equipment/supplies I own. It would get pulled out in the middle of no where and we'd have shelter and could be fairly self sufficient for a while.
