a musket nipple and takes top hat caps. It is marked xxvi fara 160 or 180. It is marked navy arms. It has a detachable stock.barrel 12" with stock fitted to grip the over all length is 28". It has all brass furniture. With a brass ring , to secure barrel to the pistol wood. Like the rings on a 3 band enfield also has set up for sling.

Any help in identifying this pistol/rifle would be great.

The original arm was meant for dragoons. Hence the common caliber with the musket and the musket size nipple.

The Confederates made some called at North Carolina's Fayetteville Armory. Check uout Confederate Arms by William Albaugh and Edward Simmons. I'd have to find my book(s) showing where it was originally developed before the war.

Also, check out Confederate Longarms and Pistols,A Pictorial Study,by Richard Taylor and William Hill, which mentions the Palmetto Single Shot Pistol [model 1842] although the original of this piece was a .54 caliber arm.
