Model S&W 66 hammer trade.....:::

I need a stainless looking hammer 4 a S&W 66. I have a stainless looking hammer 4 a S&W 66 to trade...... ========================Here is the info: I bought an older pair of Bianchi Lighting grips for my 66. When I put the grips on the Smith it will not cock! :what::what: Auction # 8992495. And I'd 'prefer' to keep the grips :) rather than ask the Seller if he would take these back :( .... The THUMBP-PIECE is too wide ABOUT 1/2" WIDE...thus the Smith will not cock! A hammer from my 686 will not fit but the THUMP-PIECE is the correct width..just a little over 1/4" wide... Would like to trade...if possible.. I can email pictures...

Well, Model 66 hammers & triggers were fitted at the factory to get the proper trigger pull, etc.

You can't always just swap hammers around on older S&W's.

Have you considered modifying the grips slightly to work with the existing hammer? If not, I think you would be way ahead to just modify your wide hammer to the same width as the standard one so it will work with the hammer shroud grips.

BYW: What auction site is the auction number you gave supposed to work with?
I tried eBay and got no results.

Mike:

While some fitting may be required, in particular on the D.A. sear, S&W hammers and triggers made for center-fire K-frame revolvers interchange between models. What you want is a hammer that is cataloged for a model 13 or 64 (.265 width). You should be able to get one here:

www,e-gunparts.com

Be aware that it will likely be used, unless you specify otherwise. I believe they have a substantial supply, taken out of revolvers that had to be destroyed because of legal requirements.
