Hello, I have been reading about how to reload for quite some time now. Right now I am trying to figure out if the brand of a case matters for reloading .38special, 9mm, .45acp, and .223 using particular load data. For example, in the lymans manual, one load i will look at says that they used a federal case, so i would assume I should only use this load data with a federal case? am i correct in that assumption?...my real problem is when i go online and look at powder companies data. I do not see any case suggested, so I am assuming that case does not matter now, as long as you sort based on headstamp/lot number to keep case life consistent? im totally confused on this one...please enlighten me.

Strictly speaking, once a load is developed, changing any part of the load means rework from 10% down and go up.

Realistically, if you are not loading up near the top end, the brand of case really won't matter much. For generic practice ammo in my pistols I don't sort cases by headstamp at all.

I'm new to reloading as well so bear with me. For target practice and Light loads, cases don't really make a difference. When you get to the top half of the load data you should really be using a NEW Case from a Brand you trust. Starline Brass is supposedly thicker than other companies. Winchester is supposed to be a good one too. Some people swear by other manufacturers, while others say those same manufacturers are crap. In my humble opinion, use new cases only for top half of load data, and when you reload those 4-5 times then retire em for practice/target loads. I only Load for Target/Plinking ATM so my cases don't matter much to me. But i am collecting once fired Winchester, and brand new Winchester and Starline brass whenever Cabelas has a Sale.
