Range Report

I took my brand new Kimber Custom TLE II to the range for the start of its break-in period yesterday. Started off by stripping it, putting a little oil in a few places, and then put a box of Federal American Eagle 230gr TMJ through it. Not a single failure of any kind, through the stock Kimber mag and I also tried out four different Wilson Combat mags- a 47D, 47DE, 47DC (okay, I guess those are all the same thing) and a 500B. Gotta say I'm pleased- I was expecting something to malfunction at some point, what with all the talk of guns needing to be broken in and 1911s being finicky about magazines, but nothing. The only thing that needs work is my aim. And maybe my range manners- who knew you had to print your name and address in the "Outgoing Ammunition Log" to take a box of ammo home?

Back at home, I noticed when cleaning it that the bore was very dirty, looked like lots of powder fouling, took a good amount of Hoppe's #9 to get a patch to come out somewhat clean... And I also noticed some little marks on the finish right around the ejection port, is it possible that spent cases are hitting the exterior of the slide? I wasn't paying too much attention to where the gun was throwing empties (except when they hit me in the head) but I'll be keeping an eye on it in the future.
