Ok call me dumb...or behind the times or whatever but has CZ bought the Dan Wesson name? If so when? I have a .357 with 3 different barrels my dad left me and I was looking around for another DW and kept seeing what looked like newer models with a CZ in the model number.

Sort of took them over. DW still makes the pistols in Norwich NY but has some funding etc from CZ as far as I understand it.

As far as the web site goes they dont do the revolvers anymore but make darn fine 1911'S!

I don't think that DW has produced any .357s under CZ ownership.

They offer .44 and 445 Supermags but production is halted or very slow.

Todays Dan Wessons are great pistols CZ leaves DW PEOPLE alone and they turm out the BEST 1911 for the money CZ does not make the bobtail Dan Wesson does

What MichaelT said.

Dan Wesson does fall under the CZ banner, but they pretty much run their own operation (of about 16 employees, IIRC), without much interference from CZ. As a matter of fact, I think the only DW pistols that CZ touches are the CBOBs that were painted with a ceramic coating and had different grips put on by CZ or someone they contracted out (and I think CZ or their contractor screwed up and put ful size grips on all of them, IIRC). Other than that, I don't think that CZ even sees the pistols.

All what are your thoughts on the 10MM Bobtail and Slabuda how does your CZ compare to a Mid-size Kimber? I have a Pro Tactical 2 and love it though it's not my primary CCW.

+1

Slammy, that is a good question. Coincidentally, I have a Kimber Tactical Pro II and was considering a DW pointman or bobtail.

I haven't got the chance to handle or shoot the DW. I would love to hear someone comment to your question.

If you can't afford a semi-custom (Baer), I agree that the Dan Wesson is the best 1911 on the market. PM7 or CBOB - both awesome guns for the money!

I have not shot a Kimber but looked at quite a few. I feel the Dan Wesson (not CZ ;) is a slightly better fit/tighter than the Kimber from the ones I have seen.

It really is a great value for the money. They do have great customer service from what I hear on the 1911 forum. Not that you will need it but as with anything touched by human hands there can be minor problems. Even the Kimbers for a while went through a bumpy patch from what is posted on here, although they fixed it it seems. Im not even sure if there was a problem though.

But saying it again I wouldnt trade my DW for anything. I may consider a Les Baer at some point in 5" to compliment it. But the Bobtail is great for CC. I am small guy at 5'2" and with a loose shirt and a decent holster you cant see it. And it is for sure more accurate than I am. The trigger breaks cleanly @ 4lbs with no perceptible creep and is smoothing up each time I shoot it. The slide/frame is also starting to break in nicely. Keep in mind these are tight and like all of the higher end 1911's do need some rounds through them to really get working. Its just like a Corvette, doesnt make its full horsepower till its broken in. I also like the fact it has a very clean slide with out billboard advertising. It really is a good modern take on a classic.
