I was at a local shop today and they had a 3" 629 with fixed sights?
Who or what distributor ordered it?

Handled real nice and would be quite concealable.

Don't think I've ever seen or heard of a 629 w/fixed sights.

Were these Cylinder & Slide Extreme Duty (http://www.cylinder-slide.com/sites.htm) sights?

Lot of variations of the 629.
There were some, product code 170012, made by performance center for Lew Horton Distributing in 1992. FIXED rear sight. They were 629-3s.

From Std Cat of S&W 2E page 201.

I sold 5 or 6 fixed sight 629's in 2000, but I seem to remember them being 2.5". Tamara will testify to the inaccuracy of my memory. I didn't get save one for myself; I was cash poor and prefer a 3".

Tam just a Sweet Reminder that I have both a S&W 13 and a 940, It was a fixed sight frame with a 3" barrel (i have to check on the barrel, it was fair week so Icould only stay a few minutes) it felt like a fat 13 only it had ugly rubber on it..

Smith & Wesson also made some fixed-sight model 19 Combat Magnums. Think of a model 13 with oversized target stocks (square butt), narrow spur hammer of the kind used on the model 13 or 10, and a heavy 4" barrel with the usual model 19 underlug. Finish with a very low ramp and Baughman style front sight.

They called it the model 19-P

Most went to South America or Europe.

Agree re the 19-P Fuff.

Also 19 related. Couple years ago there was a discussion on THR re reality of fixed sighted 19s. Someone came up with some special order ones for French (police or military, can't remember which.

This piece may be one of the run Smith made for Camfour Distributors.

Fluted or unfluted cylinder?
Full underlug or just ejector rod shroud?

I called the shop and
It is a product code 103839 Special order num 9319
Supica and Nahas put it as part of a run of 2000 for Camfor dist.

Serial num CBT5961
gives it a date around Aug to Oct 1997

it is a 2.5 barrel and full lug with a fluted cylinder and fixed sights.

I think this would be a hoot with 44 spec and a wrist breaker with full Thunder LoudenBoomers 44 mags.

This would be a great frame to put a 45 colt cylinder in with a Mountain gun barrel and rework the front sight down to match the fixed rear frame.

Alas I am dreaming again.

Thank goodness it has a full lug. Now I can pay the rent. ;)
