Monster Zero February 24, 2009, 04:30 PM Is it feasible to do this? I recently inherited some .44 magnum once-fired brass. I don't own a .44 magnum and don't have one on my list any time soon.
However, I'm a bit interested in a particular .44 special I've seen on the shelf.
Can a trim this stuff down to .44 special length and then load it? If so, what's the correct length?
TIA

rcmodel February 24, 2009, 04:43 PM You can, but the case capacity of the thicker Magnum brass will not be the same as a .44 Special case. So, load data will need to be adjusted down accordingly.
Your reloading manual will tell you the correct trim-too length.
Oh wait!
You must not have a reloading manual, which is a very necessary part of any reloading set-up!
Better getsum for your own self!
BTW: It is 1.150".

Mainsail February 24, 2009, 05:04 PM Do you have a 30.06? I can trade you some once fired 30.06 brass for the 44s you have.
Roadkill February 24, 2009, 07:10 PM How many do you have?
Mainsail February 24, 2009, 07:13 PM Either 98 or 100, I have a short attention span when counting. I have a bunch of other big rifle brass that I've picked up at the range as well.

Sure, it'll work. But, if you think the gun gods or the Easter Bunny will ever forgive you, you're WRONG!
Walkalong February 24, 2009, 10:02 PM Lots of work, .44 Spl brass is relatively cheap, your call. :)
Folks trade brass here frequently. Post here "Buy, Sell and Trade: Reloading Components and Gear (http://www.thehighroad.org/forumdisplay.php?f=50)" You may find someone who needs what you have and will trade some .44 Spl for it.
moooose102 February 25, 2009, 08:31 AM if you do not already have the gun, why not just buy a 44 mag. then you can shoot either. and if you are reloading anyway, you can download to 44 special loads in the magnum case. makes more sense to me.
atlanticfire February 25, 2009, 09:32 AM buy a 44 magBest idea yet.;)
achildofthesky February 25, 2009, 09:50 AM I am sure that someone would love to trade you some 44 spcl for the 44 mag.

It seems there is a problem with this these days.
