I was just surfing the net when I discovered that Impact Guns sells the Lyman Plains Pistol Kit for a great price.... $169. Does anyone have one of these and are they the same quality as the Plains rifle?
Also, did Hawken or any of the other makers of the period actually make a pistol which resembled the Lyman?
Anyone have some pics?
Happy Shooting!:D

I have the Lyman's Plains Pistol. I did not buy the kit but the finished pistol. I have had great fun with it and think that it's quality is on par with their rifles. I did build a Lyman's Great Plains flintlock rifle from a kit about 15 years ago and have won several rendezvous shoots with it and harvested a few deer as well. The rifle kit was a very easy build with simple tools. I am guessing that the pistol would be as well. I'm sorry that I can not be of any help concerning your question of the authenticity of the pistol but I'm sure someone else here can be a better help. Good luck with whatever you decide and keep us posted.

That's a great price, they are $280 at DGW. The kit is $235.

I have a .50 flintlock Great Plains Rifle, it is very nice, if under used. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I'll have to get a pair of pistols now!
