Hello everyone,
I am a new member and I got a question for you guys. I have about 70 days till I get my conceal carry permit and I have been looking at rigs for when I can carry. The problem is I am in a small town and it looks like I am gonna have to get my rig off the net. So, I plan on carrying either behind or in front of my right hip (IWB) and I was wondering what you guys think the better holster is between Galco and Kramer. I have seen the price difference and Kramer seems higher quality but their website doesnt give me as good of a picture as Galco and this isnt the kind of thing I want to throw money at without some advice from people that have tried the products. All I am looking for is a good quality holster that keeps the gun tight against me and tight in the holster. Any suggestions or personal experiences are greatly appreciated. 1 final note: this place is really informative and very divers looks like you guys have a good thing goin here.

I think you'll be happier if you "try it on" before buying. Are there no decent gun stores within your range?

Welcome to the forum. I have a couple of models each of Galco and Kramer (horsehide). Both companies make a good product. The Kramer horsehide are superior.

Galco and Kramer are good holsters but if you want the best quality for your $$$ check out IWB offerings from Milt Sparks and Alessi. Also if you haven't heard Galco recently raised their prices.

I agree... If you want the most holster for your money buy a Sparks or Alessi and forget about Galco.

I'm gonna say "forget about leather" :)
Get a Blade Tech kydex IWB. You wont regret it.

One thing to keep in mind--

If you go Kydex pick a firearm with a tough finish or one you are not worried about. Kydex offers a quick draw and is almost indestructable but it is the most abrasive to a firearm's finish short of a poor fitting holster.

Wow. I didnt expect so many responses so quickly.
Well, from what I have seen I am steering towards the Sparks summer special 2. Now I am just wondering how snug the summer specials hold the gun. Anyone have any experience with this particular holster? I am gonna be carrying my S&W model 469 behind the right hip. Do you guys think this is a good holster for my setup? Sorry for all the questions but I am definitely not knowledgeable in this area and like I said before the internet is not a fun place to shop when your not sure what to get. Thanks for the replies you guys have given me some good info.

Try doing a search on THR for user Brommeland, he makes very good looking holsters, for about the price you would pay to either Kramer or Galco.

I won't buy Kramer or Galco, but Brommeland and Rafter S are high in my books. Custom leather for minimal price. Plus from the dealings I have had with both companies they are TOP rate!

This really isnt the case. I dont think it wears the finish any faster than leather. In fact, its protects the gun better than leather as it will keep it from getting and staying wet and rusting from sweat. Leather doesnt dry anytime soon once wet. Any holster will wear the finish on your gun, if this worries you, dont carry your fancy gun. It wont be fancy looking after a while reguardless what you carry it in.

la sports mentioned that kydex will wear out most finishes very quickly. In my experience this has only been true when the kydex holsters were not kept clean. If you get dirt, sand, etc. (read: anything even mildly abrasive) inside the holster or on your gun, it can cause scratching and/or rapid wear on the finish as you are drawing the pistol in and out of the holster..

That being said, if you are looking at IWB holsters, I would consider leather first. I have never found an IWB kydex holster that was comfortable for me but YMMV.
