I was looking into buying a Bush Master AR15 and my brother in law told me of a dealer who has one Brand New for $800.00 with hard case (which comes with it from factory?) I am not sure of the model number it has the carry hanlde and 30 round clip - nothing else. For a basic version is this a good price or shop around? I looked on Auction Arms web site and they seem to be going for $1000 - 1300 but I am not 100 % sure they are the same. Any suggetions or comments about the price would be great. I have said for 10 years I have going to pick up an AR and finally saved up $900 for one and the wife said " your money you have been waiting ".

at this point in time, yes, it is a good price! grab it up if it is something you can live with, but do not sell yourself short, and buy a rifle you do not like.

That is a pretty good price these days as far as I can tell. I bought a Bushmaster AR-15 (16" HBAR Patrolman's Carbine, A3 w/ Removable Carry Handle) for roughly that price almost a year ago. The hard case is included with Bushmaster rifles.

Surf thru gunbroker.com and see what they're selling for these days

not "asking for", but "selling for"

Better snag that $800 deal pronto.

Since I just paid $970 + tax for mine about 7 hours ago I'd say it's a good deal. I never thought I'd be paying that much for an AR-15 but the frenzy has driven up prices something fierce.

i say go get it, don't let it pass you up for 2 reasons. one it is a good price, two it is a bushmaster and they are good to go reliable, and accurate enough.

I wouldn't recommend the Bushmaster.

You can get a lot more rifle for less than $1,000.

Everything about the Doublestar is better than the Bushmaster. Also see Sabre Defence. (a tad more pricey)

I'm not a Bushmaster basher - I've shot several.

I think you'll be happier with a better one.

I feel that BM is the Ford Taurus of the AR-15 world. Nothing wrong with that, there's just better for not much more.

By the way - I drive a Taurus...but my AR is a Sabre Defence lower with a Doublestar upper......

For that price buy it and if you want something different later buy the right parts, swap them out yourself, sell what was previously on the rifle and come out about even in the end.

I bought a basic rifle a couple years back and have upgraded a couple things and I'm contemplating a couple more pieces to upgrade and personalize it a little more. You can always change parts later, it looks like it's only getting harder to find the rifles (especially for that price).

Yeah, I'm curious as well.

I wouldn't recommend the Bushmaster.
You can get a lot more rifle for less than $1,000.

Over the years I have owned several Bushmasters and handled many Colt, DPMS, Olympic and others, and although all have their pro's and con's, none were "a lot more rifle" than the Bushmaster.

Everything about the Doublestar is better than the Bushmaster.

"EVERYTHING"?

I'm not a Bushmaster basher - I've shot several.

I'm sorry, but it does sound a little like bashing.
Perhaps I'm just taking it the wrong way.

Plus the guy has stumbled upon a very good deal for the times, lets not let our bias discourage him and miss out on the opportunity.

Where can you get a better rifle for less than $1000? The OP stated he could get a Bushmaster for $800 which in this market is an excellent price. I just paid ~$970 + tax for my Bushmaster and that seems to be a good price compared to what I have seen. People have been ordering kits and paying less than a grand but the wait times are over 6 months and with the lower and ffl fees these are often close to or over $1000.

I just can't see where anyone can (other than the occasional "great deal" that someone found i.e. the OP's $800 find) get any AR-15 in the Bushmaster or better class for under $1000.

the best ar's ive owned have been bushmasters, but then again, the only other brand ive owned was a colt.

joe joe is either a troll, or just ignorant.

lol doublestar.

my nephew just got a doublestar upper at a gunshow. after his first range trip he found the upper was splitting inside the carry handle. dont know if it happened while he was shooting it or was like that when he got it.

doublestar will replace the reciever for only 229 dollars.

cant wait to get mine.

Regardless of one's particular brand loyalties (my experiences with Bushmaster firearms have been generally poor), a new-in-box Bushmaster for $800 these days is a deal that should be consummated. Almost anything on an AR can be fixed/replaced/improved with the right tools and a bit of mechanical aptitude, so there's really very little risk on this one. Get it, and report back with pics and a range trip:).

Well as much as I would like to post pictures and say what a deal I got I am not going to be able to do so. I do not now how to edit to the post but wanted to thank eveyone for the info I got. That said , the shop was owned by a guy and was a side business he ran. I found out today when he called me back to say sorry gun was gone - he works afternoons and today was the first chance we could get work schedules worked out to transfer it. Someone else broke into his house/gun shop and decided to help them self's to it and a couple other rifles and pistols. I guess next time don't wait and take advantage of a deal. After talking with him they have fingerprints and are hoping they have them on file. I will have to wait for another deal or I am thinking of getting my wife a new pistol and I was thinking of getting a nice rifle for my daughter in case she decides to maybe take up hunting with her dad. Again thank you everyone for your suggestions and comments.

Bummer. That sounds kind of suspicious though. To hold an FFL you usually need to have pretty tight security. If his house was not reinforced, the inventory (guns) should have been in a very professional safe.

You don't think this guy is messing with you, do you? Maybe he wasn't really an FFL?
