if you do, do you use two different guns or two of the same?

I don't, but I can see circumstances where it would be benificial.

Sometimes two of the same, others different ones. Depends on the weather and if I'm in a hurry.

Usually I have the S&W 19-3 or G19 on the hip, the P232 (my always gun) at the 7 o'clock, ankle or left jacket pocket and a G34 or BE 9900 in the glovebox w/ 2 spare mags.
Fear of lack of shooting back or something boardering those lines. Anybody who's ever been on the receiving end, either in war or the street, knows there never seems to be enough ammo or buddies around. lol

I do not know what a NY reload is but I am assuming that it means carrying 2 guns instead of a reload for a single firearm. Is that correct?

When I dual carry it is with an M&P40 IWB and a Ruger LCP in a custom elastic chest band or in a pocket.

Glock 19 on right side in a Blade-Tech paddle, P2AT in the left front pocket.
Glock 17+2 mag (19 rounds) and a Surefire light in a paddle on the left side.
I'd rather do a regular reload with the Glock, but that might not work for various reasons.
It's good to keep the NY reload as an option.

The majority of time i carry just one S&W 637 in the right front pocket with two speed loaders in a pouch in the left back pocket.
Sometimes though i carry two 637s plus the speedloaders.

I quite often use the new york reload. My favorite is the LCP .380 as my bug

Glock 19 and a Glock 26 when I carry 2 guns. Otherwise my G19 with XS sights and 2 additional mags. When the clothing permits...either my sig or my 1911. But I am a firm believer in the NY Reload. Quicker to grab another already stoked gun than to grab another mag. at times. IMO.

Any area can be a bad area at a specific point in time.
I have carried two at a time and am thinking about doing it again - P32 in front right pocket and 642 in a Smartcarry.

a Glock 23 behind my right hip with two spare 13 or15 round mags on my left. An LCP now rides in my left pocket constantly. I carry a spare mag in my right pocket for the LCP. A buddy of mine just bought a second KT 380 and added the crimson trace sights to it. He now carries both, one in his shirt pocket and a second in his pants pocket. He also is usually carrying a birds head 44-40 on his belt.

It's ironic that this is called a NY reload when it seems that NY is not much in favor of concealed carry. That's part of the reason I moved from NY to Texas. I carry two Glock 19s in a double shoulder rig.

st. louis, mo, I had 3 people try and mug me last year, luckily bullets never had to be fired but still.
I carry 2 guns because I'm a sucker for revolvers and i have found no matter how fast I try to reload my gun (even with moonclips) drawing another is just that much faster.

They just call it that because it was popularized by the nypd during new yorks more crime ridden days

Carjackings, muggings, armed robberies, drive by shootings, rapes, murders, kidnappings, road rage, home invasions, open air drug markets, you name it (Arlington/Alexandria, VA and Prince Georges County, MD). I have permits so I make good use of them.
Also, considering the amount of firepower the criminals have and that they more often than not operate in groups, I consider myself to be quite undergunned no matter what handguns I carry.

Plus if you are with a friend that knows his/her way around guns, you can throw them your BUG and use your primary. Very unlikely maybe, but at least an option.
I sometimes carry both my 1911 (IWB strongside) and my S&W 642 (pocket). Just depends on my mood I guess.
I've often wondered how many guns I could CCW. I'd be tempted to try it, if I had these guns:
- My 1911 IWB, strong side
- My S&W 642 in a pocket holster, plus the following:
- A Khar IWB weak side
- A S&W J Frame or Colt DS in the small of my back
- Kel-Tec P32 or P3AT in each front cargo pocket (2)
- A S&W J Frame on the right ankle
- Another on the left
- A NAA minimag on a lanyard around my neck
- Another NAA mini in one of those nifty belt buckles
- A pair of 1873 SAAs in shoulder rigs under an over coat
That would make 12  :neener: .
And again, I only carry the first two, the rest I pulled out of my backside. Though I bet it'd be a PIA, it'd be darn fun to try! And given the proper gear and attire, I bet it would actually be doable.

In the winter time, when access to my primary carry piece is hindered by a zipped up coat, I have taken to slipping my little Taurus Model 85 into a chest pocket. As this is a ski coat with a vertical zipper along the centerline, access is quick; very much like drawing from a shoulder holster.
It occurred to me after a little while doing this, that that in most situations, the revolver would be the first gun, making it the primary, and my P7 the back-up. This means that, in effect, I am carrying a larger, more powerful gun as back-up to my primary. In deference to the closest metropolis to me, I have taken to calling it my "Detroit reload."

Where I live, 3 stolen bicycles in a month = a crime wave.
But there was a shooting less than half a mile from my place last year. Two BGs beat up a guy who was taking out the garbage not far from here last spring.
Bad people are often mobile. They don't always stay where you put them. Inconsiderate bastards!
You can't schedule emergencies.

I just carry an extra mag when ever I need the firepower. I'm sure a jury isn't going to like that fact that you killed a guy and had multiple guns on your persons. Id just as soon stick with an extra mag or two.

Evan Marshall, retired Detroit PD Homicide detective, routinly carries three pistols where he lives, a very quiet neighborhood outside of Detroit. His experiances in 24 years of law enforcement in one of the roughest beats in America, plus his numerous and varied contacts/friends/coworkers in LE have similar experiances that reinforce the belief a second gun is prudent, and a third may be a life saver. I tend to agree. Hence, this.

theres been many times where i've carried my glock 23 behind my right hip bone and my 340pd in my right front pocket but if i did it again i would wear the j frame on my left side(next to the spare glock mag) for ambidextrous access to my guns. Even though I practice drawing from my right side with my left hand, its really slow and akward so I think carrying weakside would make better use of my backup gun.

I occasionally carry 2 guns when I'm carrying 5 shot revolvers. In that set up I go with either my SP101 or my S&W 638 IWB on my hip with my S&W 642 in my left front pocket. The majority of the time though I consider one snubby and one speedloader good enough for my typical threat level. However, I will readily agree with anyone that says that the fastest way to reload a revolver is to draw another revolver.
With my Glock 19 or my Ruger P345, all that I ever carry is one gun and a spare magazine. I can do a mag change PDQ (pretty damn quick) with an autoloader and that's good enough for me.

I always carry at least two, but lately I've started to carry my BUG more as a primary.
It's a 5-shot J-frame. The majority of self-defense shootings end up around five rounds or less. If I'm defending myself from multiple criminals, I'll empty the J-frame then go to the autoloader on my hip for which I carry spare mag(s). Chances are those five rounds will be plenty, if not, they should be enough to slow the fellows down so I can get to the other one.
Either way, if you're going to carry spare ammunition, it makes sense to carry spare ammunition for the gun you're likely to "end up with".
Having another on the ankle is nice in the case of a carjacking, a fight that puts you on the ground, or any other situation where arming another good guy might be a good idea (be careful with that one).

Today I experimented with carrying a Kahr PM9 in the pocket and a S&W 637 as a primary in a IWB holster. I had a speedloader for the 637 in a jacket pocket and two spare mags for the PM9 in the usual rear pocket pouch.
This worked much better for me simply because the PM9 is much easier to grab and quicker to pull from the pocket holster and pocket. The same thing goes for the mags.....much easier to pull from the pouch in the pocket. :)

Really? I hate pocket carrying my PM9 for the opposite reason... There's an inch of slide sitting on top of my hand when I try to draw, whereas the J-frame is no wider than my fist.

Chris in VA....The area I live in is "Meth Alley" of NY. I live (if you want to get an idea) maybe 20 miles from the PA line directly south of Syracuse, NY. If you see the layout of the roads and that all the roads converge at a city(slumhole and getting worse) called Binghamton. This is a major thorough fare for drug trafficking. We have all the major gangs represented including MS-13 and some 1%'er motorcycle clubs. Most of the problems come up from NYC where Social services has bus schedules to Binghamton posted for the clients. So, yeah...I would rather have and not need than need and not have. Out in the sticks where I live, IF there is a NYS Trooper at the substation 10 miles away...at least in the vicinity....it'll be 15-20 minutes before I may see him pull up. And a deputy? There's only 3-4 on duty any given night. If there is one in my zone...20 minutes from the time I put in the 911 call. If not...I'll tell Dispatch to send the Coroner with the responding cars.

I practice doing BUG transitions, but it honestly isn't that common for me to carry two handguns instead of a couple spare mags.

I carry a 4" smith L-frame .357 strong side and a smith model 60 .38 in an uncle mikes nylon ankle holster...I don't consider it as my new york reload because It's down south for other reasons than that. Although if my primary runs out and I can't speedload, I might consider getting to it.

I use a Desantis Nemesis holster. The back of the slide works as kind of an indexing point for the web of my hand.
