Federal HST - where to find it?

I am having a really tough time finding Federal HST JHP ammo right now. I'm looking for the 147gr for my P2000sk 9mm and 180gr for my USP .40 Compact.

I've looked everywhere online and can't find anything. I don't know of anywhere locally that carries this stuff. I'm looking for the 50rd boxes that cost $20-$25.

Also, do they make the 9mm HST in +P?

Thanks in advance. - CP

I heard that Federal was selling it to LE only, now.

Of course, I heard that at a gun store, so that's probably complete bulls--t.

Anyway, I got some at Impact Guns, but I got .45ACP. Didn't check to see if they had any of the smaller stuff. Call them.

I think it's all +P (as relevant to the caliber of course).

I got my HST when the gettin' was good...thankfully...
I've got 180gr .40 (about 170 rounds left) and 124gr 9mm +P (only 32 rounds left).
I'd be willing to part with a box of the .40 if the price was...right...
Heck, I'll even sell my 32 rounds of 9mm since I don't even have a 9mm anymore...
I'd be surprised if you found them in the $20-25 range anymore. It's getting scooped up quick.

HSTs - can't beat 'em, imo.

They’re difficult to impossible to find right now. It pained me greatly last Saturday when I sent the nine in my 1911 downrange, but I had to know for sure that the gun I’d been carrying loaded for the last five months would have shot reliably if I had needed it to. It did. All nine rounds without a hiccup, then another 100 rounds of ball just for practice; flawless.

Streichers is due to get their shipment any day now, according to one of their reps.

Yes, they do have a +P 124gr HST

Try ammunitiontogo.com. I bought some there about 8 weeks ago. Don't know if any is in stock now, but it is a product they carry.

Wow.

I just ordered $232 worth of HST from Streichers (ammo surcharge, $15 shipping, and $15 tax included). It's backordered but I'm ok with that.

I got:

(3) boxes 9mm 147gr
(2) boxes 9mm 124gr +P
(2) boxes .40s&w 180gr
(2) boxes .40s&w 165gr

I got 450 premium JHP rounds for $232 total or $25.78/50rd box. Not bad at all, considering a 25rd box of Gold Dots is $25! I've never spent so much on ammo all at once, but I'm glad I did. My P2000sk 9mm and USP .40 Compact are my two primary defense guns. Now I have a good amount of JHP for both.

I got two bullet weights in each caliber to see which weight shoots better and more accurately, and then I'll stock up on more of that. That's the plan anyways.

Thanks for that link gglass! Streichers was really easy to order from. No faxing papers, no BS. I really appreciate it, brother! Thanks again. - CP

Like all LEO surplus ammo its becomes available to the public when there are over runs, or canceled orders. With the race to buy ammo since the election most of the sources with stock that had good prices have since dried up. You can probably find it on Gunbroker and some other sources for a premium. The sources I've bought from before have since run out. I think you may be out of luck unless you are willing to pay dearly for it.

I think I saw some at Cabelas a couple weeks a go. It wasnt labelled HST but the bullet sure did look like it. I think it was something like Federal Premium Defense. It caught my eye because it was a different box than their other stuff.

I appreciate the input guys but if you read my post above I said that I had already ordered a bunch of HST from the source gglass mentioned. I backordered it but a shipment is supposed to arrive any day so it's all good.

Thanks again guys!

@CPshooter
Come back and tell us when it actually arrives. I'm curious how long you have to wait. Is it 6 weeks, or 6 months...? I hate backorders...

Imagine my surpise when I started getting FTF's in my Sig P220. I thought something bad was wrong with the box of WWB I had just bought. I pulled the mag and really freaked when I saw it was the Gold Dot causing the problems.
That's exactly why I wanted to fire the HSTs that had been sitting in my Sig GSR for five months. I even had to hide the gun from the Range master because I didn't want to lock it open and I wasn't allowed to carry it downrange. I wanted to know for certain that if I had ever needed it to go bang, that it would. It did.

I've also not found it easy to find Federal HST ammo. I just kind of wanted to see if I liked it but it's not too easy to find or so it seems.

They charged my card right away. That's for sure...lol. So hopefully they got some in like gglass was saying or they are expecting it very soon.

I usually buy my HST's from Streicher's since they are so good to deal with. I was in the position to buy more a couple of weeks ago when Ammo To Go got a large shipment in. I called the good folks at Streicher's to see when they expected theirs and was told the 1st week of March (next week). I couldn't wait that long so I went ahead and ordered from Ammo To Go. (A bird in the hand so to speak.)

I've dealt with the people at Streicher's long enough to know that they would not tell me the 1st of March if they didn't have that on good authority.

I still haven't received any kind of shipping or "back in stock" notification, but a $232 charge has posted to my credit card statement. I'll probably wait until after the weekend before I give Streicher's a call to see what's up.

Today, a guy I know told me that the Obama administration is definitely going to be taxing ammo and requiring that any new ammo purchased must be registered in your name, in addition to making it illegal to keep any ammo you currently own. Indiana is supposed to be one of the 11 states where this is more than likely going to happen, according to what he told me. He said he got a letter or email from the NRA...

Is there any truth behind this? Can anyone direct me towards the facts about what might possibly be happening to our gun/ammo rights under the Obama administration? I've heard so many things that I don't even know whats true anymore. I'd like to get informed on what kind of bills are trying to get passed and when they will be voted on. All I can say is I'm glad I ordered all this HST!!! (unless they make JHP ammo illegal to carry in Indiana)

ammunitiontogo -- i was about to order some a couple months ago, then they went out of stock... i was bummed. but i kept checking back every couple days and was pleasantly surprised late one night when it was suddenly back in stock. shipping was fast (even though they alerted me to possible looonnngg backlog delays) so now i keep checking back to see if more comes available. i plan on re-ordering... they're good people.

Was in stock today at ammunitiontogo and they're all out of the .45 but i believe they have some .40s still. Get them while you can because they WILL go out of stock in a day or two.

I believe they still have some hydra-shoks left for the same price as the HST's. Who knows maybe they will be out after writing this post.

Same here. I put in my order 2+ weeks ago, and my order just shows "pending". Just outta curiosity, when did you place your order?

I ordered mine on feb 20 and no sign of it yet. I have never waited this long.

CPshooter

Ok, so I just called Streichers and they let me know why the wait is so long.

They said that people who ordered HST last July just now received their order!

The gentleman on the phone told me HST is without a doubt the hardest ammo to find right now and that the waiting list is 900 orders long. LOL! I'm in the 700s and ordered almost a month ago so there's no way I'll get it any time soon.

He said that there's a chance I might be able to get some of the 9mm 124gr "sometime soon", but the 9mm 147gr and .40s&w loads are in much higher demand.

They are refunding the charge on my credit card but keeping me on the backorder list so if it does happen to come in relatively soon, my card will get charged then if I still want it.

I guess I'll just have to stick with Gold Dots.. sheesh!

There is a big stack of 9mm 124g +P at the local gun store, but I haven't seen any online for some time now. Life is a beast under BO.
