Colt mags in an Ultra Carry?

I went to a gun show here in town to get some spare mags for my Kimber Ultra Carry. I have some old GI types that was giving me slide lock problems. I found this guy who bought a massive qty of Colt mags, officer and full size, stainless and black. He wanted $10.99 for one, 20.00 for 2. I quickly bought 2 stainless officer type. They seem to fit well, and the slide locks on empty for both. They, of course, have the Colt logo on the base plate. Did I get a good deal? Do you think they will perform well in my Ultra Carry? I have an IDPA match next saturday. I guess I'll find out then.

But if you want the best, get Wilson mags. Dillion precision has then fairly reasonable. They are all I carry, and I pack a Officer's sized .45 everyday. On-duty and off. Reliability is a MUST. Invest in Wilson's!

Agreed, but the Colt mags seem like a good deal, especially if they prove to be reliable in my Kimber. I forgot to mention that I also ordered 2 Chip McCormick Mags from cheaperthandirt.com. One is the shooting star and the other is the match grade. They are due to arrive mon/tues. I will also put these to the test at the match next saturday.

If the Colt mags are new, I doubt they will be a problem. I have never had a problem with Colt mags.
The Wilson mags are widely regarded as the best, but to be honest, I think they are over rated. Yes, they work great, but the nylon follower wears out, and then you will have problems with your slide locking back.
The McCormick and Colt mags dont have a nylon follower, and I think last longer.

As promised I have a range report...
I had a great time at the IDPA match at Trgger Time in Carthage, NC. Those guys can be pretty creative in their stages. :)
To make a long story short, both of the Chip McCormick and both of the Colt mags worked great without a single hiccup. This other 1911 guy told me he has seen Colt mags sell for as much as $35 each. I feel pretty good about the deal I got at the gun show last weekend!

may not have been made by Colt. Look on the bottom, where the horsie is.
If you see a "C", it's a Colt. If you see an "M"...it was made for Colt
by Metalform. Good magazines, too.
Cheers!

I looked at the Colt mags and they do have an "M". Did I still get a good deal on them?

Yep...Colt sells those same magazines for about 30 bucks retail.
You might find'em at Brownells for 25. That horsie is expensive.
Metalform will sell you the same magazine without the horsie
for about 20, and if you order 50 or more, it gets down to about
9 bucks a copy. Order Wolff +5% extra-power springs at 3 for
11 bucks, put'em in the Metalform mags, and you've got great
magazines. The standard spring Metalform uses is a little light
for best function, but works well for a while if the pistol is a
5-inch model with standard recoil spring. (16 pounds) The Wolff
springs make'em whistle!
If you've got 10 pals that want 5 good magazines for about 12 bucks
each plus shipping, you're set.
Luck to ya, pardner...

The Chip McCormick springs in the mags I bought feel lighter that the ones in the Colt. Will the Wolff springs work in those, too, or do they make replacement springs for the CMC mags?
Sorry about all the questions, Tuner, but all this is very interesting.

Kinda sounds like a Dime-Novel P.I., don't it?:D
Yes, The Wolff springs will work in the McM maazine, but may not allow
8 rounds.

Mighty welcome Browns Fan. I forgot to mention that if you want an
8-round magazine with a good, strong spring to order the McCormick
Powermags. Most people report excellent performance with those.
Take care and keep yer powder dry!
