I posted a question the other day about the quality of the recent production Colt SAAs. I stopped by an out of the way shop I hadn't been to before and as luck would have it they had a NIB Colt SAA of recent production. It's in the blue custom shop box with the split S-A serial number. It's a blue/CC .45 with the 5.5" barrel. I looked it over closely and the fit and finish is fantastic, as nice as the USFA guns I'd been looking at.

The dealer has it priced at $1100. From what I've seen on the net that price seems fair. What do y'all think? Is that a good buy? Any and all comments are appreciated.

I'd say that's right in the ballpark these days. You could always try politely offering $100 or so less, and see what happens. Of course, there are also some of the econo-version Colts, the Colt Cowboy, out there too. I think the only variant is the 5-1/2" bbl blued. As you probably realize, they are NOT as nicely finished and put together as the Colt model you're looking at. The USPFA guns are pretty nice, too, though wouldn't have the collector appeal of the genuine "Horsey" brand. Not yet, anyways...;)

I saw one in a local gun shop with the longer barrel for $1,199.99. I don't care a great deal for single actions, so I wasn't tempted, but did remember the price.

Cowboy also has a transfer bar, IIRC. Colt has had some problems in the past, even w/ a premier product like the SAA. I hear they're turning themselves around, but I'd look over a potential purchase w/ a great deal of scrutiny.

My personal experiences have been that Colt won't be able to fix it right, unless, perhaps, it is a 1911.
