Can anyone tell me the manufactering date on a Colt Peacemaker with Serial # starting with G854.. and possibly a round about value of this pistol. I recently bought it from a friend that was in need of some money for bills only paid 150.00 for gun. This gun is in excellent condition hardly ever shot with no holster rub, still has the original grips.

ox, try this web site:

Best I can tell it looks like it was made between 1973 and 1974. A quick look on http://www.gunsamerica.com gives an asking value as low as $300 to as high as $900, so at any rate $150 was an excellent buy.

Well Lone Gunman this is the first Colt I have ever bought. I didnt know the value of the gun. I have always been into Rugers more but I didnt think i could pass it up. He was actually only asking 100 but I told him I would give him 150 I just didnt think 100 would be right. I am not fimilar with Colts at all. I really appreciate any more info that yall may know about it. The gun only came with a .22Mag cylinder but he said it was a convertable model I dont know thou.

Be aware that your gun is of the old Colt SAA design internally, and as such, can only be carried with 5 rounds in the cylinder and the hammer down on an empty chamber.

To load:
1. Load one.
2. Skip one.
3. Load four.
4. Bring the hammer to full cock and let it down all the way on the empty chamber.

With any SA of that design, always cock the hammer fully before lowering it.
If not done, and the hammer lowered from the half-cock loading position, the locking bolt spring-arm takes a beating, and the cylinder will develop a scratch "ring" around it.

You stole that gun from him. I would give him at least an extra $100 for the sake of friendship. $450 is a common # depending on the things that collectors look for. IF it came with two cylinders LR and WMR, then that reduces the value. You will be hard pressed to fit a LR cylinder in it as each cylinder is factory fitted to the gun.
