I just purchased a 6.8mm spc upper. I have plenty of 223 magazines but do not have any 6.8spc followers. So what is the difference in the followers? Will the 6.8 function with using the 223 followers?

I can find the whole magazines but I cant find any 6.8 followers.

I do know that capacity is reduced by the 6.8 round.

from my research you need new mags.

My understanding as well. It is a different magazine, not just a different follower.

Dedicated steel 6.8 Rem SPC magazines are the best solution.

As I understand it, aluminum USGI AR/M16/M4 mags will function with a small number of rounds loaded (5-7 or so, I think), but a fully loaded USGI mag with 6.8SPC will not properly hold its shape and give you feed and magazine drop problems.

Never tried the USGI route, though -- when I got a 6.8 upper, I just went ahead and ordered some steel 6.8 mags from PRI. I think I've also seen CDNN stocking 6.8 SPC mags on their website.

USGI mags don't work past 5-7 rounds.
Buy the PRI mags. They work.

You are a step or two ahead of me. I am trying to decide if I should get a 6.8 spc. Have you found ammo yet? Since yesterday I am wondering if I shouid look at 7.62x51.

So far, I have found only one dealer in my town who stocks this ammo at about $20 dollars per box. Also you'll have to get dedicated mags for this rifle.

You need 6.8 specific mags. For now... your choices are

C-Products at about $12/ea
PRI at about $40/ea
Barrett at about $40/ea.

At present, the PRI will give you the ability to reload to the longest COAL, with C-products a close second... however, C-Products is testing some new mags to allow the longer reloading specs.

I have two of the C-products, which work just fine... and am waiting for the news on the testing of the newer version of them.

You can purchase ammo directly from Silver State Armory with a good selection of bullets/loads. To shoot the "tactical" loads (hotter) you must have the correct chambering of 6.8 SPC II or ARPerformance's 6.8 x 43mm. If you have the SAAMI spec'd chamber... stick with the lighter offerings of loads.

SSA and Hornady use the Small Rifle primers, and SSA's allow for the most powder capacity. Remington brass uses the Larg Rifle primers and can show pressure signs sooner than the SR primered brass. Cor-Bon uses Remington's brass.

I can vouch for the Pri mags. They work and allow me more flexability with my handloads.
