As the title stated. Whats a fair price for a Winchester Super X 1 in 98% condition? I've been looking on the various auction sites and have seen them from $350-$850. these have all been "Field Grade" 12ga guns ranging in condition from beat up to like new. I'm considering adding one to the gunsafe for my kids to fight over when I'm gone (LOL)

I don't know, I have one. :)
Off the top of my head, a 95% or so field gun with a Mod choke would be $500 around here. Full choke is a little less and IC gets more.
How does that compare with what you are seeing? Are you looking at guns with a box or no box. Oh heck, the trigger and rib screw. The later guns don't have a screw through the rib out by the front bead and they have an improved 'stage 3' trigger - IOW the later guns tend to be more expensive.
Of course, a few years ago I paid $450 for a very nice later model Mod choked gun with one big ding in the forearm. No wear to the bluing, just that ding. I liked it and the shop knocked $50 off the asking price. I might have been a little pickier if I'd been paying s&h and FFL fee.
Some have pads, some don't and some like mine have a good looking period replacement pad that was professionally fitted and works quite well. Mine's a shooter, not a collector, so it didn't matter.
Like the man says, "The nicer the wood, the more you pay." www.superxmodel1.com/for_sale The last pic at the bottom shows the rib screw vs. no screw.
My field grade doesn't look like any of his guns. :p
Okay, mine looks pretty much like this one, except mine has a pad, a ding and a Mod choke vs. his IC. www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=112033

And don't shoot it until you replace the recoil buffer if it's original. They're cheap and the old ones are brittle by now.

Several months ago, I purchased a Super X Model 1 XTR trap gun on gunbroker. The gun is approximately 98%, and I paid $750.00 including shipping. The gun has been 100% satisfactory. I hope this helps.

Thanks folks, I guess I better be prepared to pay $650-750 for what I'm looking for. I want a nice looking shooter not a collectors item. I shoot every gun I own or I don't own it long. Where can the recoil buffers be purchased?

Thanks PA4476,
That website may come in handy should I need any Model 12 parts also.

Wrights sells parts and guns too and also comes highly recommended.

Thanks John,
I'm doing a lot of window shopping right now. I hope to add one to the stable in the next few months. An SX1 would nicely compliment my two Model 12's.

I have bought 4 SX1's off gun broker in the last year. Keep an eye out on there.
Do you know what bbl length and choke you would want ?
I started with a 30" full that had been screw choked by Briley, but soon found I liked a 28" fixed mod better.

I'd be happy with either a 26" or 28" I/C or Mod. I dont want a 30" or a Full. There are three on Gunbroker right now in the $750-800 price range. I don't have enough throw away cash to buy one of those right now, But I'm in no hurry. Something will eventually come along. I've got the patience of an oyster. :D

I just bought a 26" IC SX1 with vent rib for $339. The wood has a couple handling marks, but metal is in good condition.
Don't pay $800 for a nice SX1.
And if you do pay that much, make sure it's a skeet or trap model with the engraving on the sides of the receiver and high grade wood.
Those on GB are field models, and just because they say near new in the box still doesen't make them worth $800.
I bought a skeet model about 6 months ago with 26" fixed skeet choke for $550. And it is just like new.
This is a nice one if you can get it for $550 or $600 >>> http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=123986152
This one is WAY too high, and it doesn't even have a vent rib >>>>> http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=123732419

(LOL)Thats my $500 bid on the first one.:D I contacted him directly and he said he wanted $750 firm. So I graciously passed. As I said I'm in no hurry. It's not something I need or gotta have. Just an idea I've been toying with. I'll find one I'm willing to pay the price for eventually. Thanks for posting the links.
