Hi, folks. Until now, I've stayed with the standard 870 trigger, as I've used it for years and know its ways. I'm thinking about upgrading by having a trigger job done on my 870's. However, the question is: which gunsmith? Can any of you recommend a good place to have this work done? Also, can one send in just the trigger group, or must the whole gun be sent?

Also, I understand that one can buy replacement (adjustable?) trigger groups for the 870. Who makes these, and what do they cost? Can anyone provide a link and/or a recommendation from personal experience?

Finally, I understand Remington used to sell kits (including a replacement bolt) for the FlexTab conversion on older 870's. Are these kits still available? Can anyone provide a source, and/or link, and/or price information?

Many thanks.

Good smiths are getting scarcer than Statesmen in Congress, but Allen Timney both does regular trigger work and sells complete TGs with a steel frame. The site's timneygunsmith.com.

Flextab kits may possibly still be available at Valley Gun Shop near B-more. The number's 410-668-2171.

Preacherman,

Try here: www.cdnninvestments.com

They had a sale on complete 870 trigger groups with flex tab for abot $30-$40. As well as complete bolt assys. for $19.95 IIRC.

I doubt that even Remington sells parts that cheap.

I dug up this old thread that I found in a search. Now, I have a question.

Is there a new style bolt assembly (that goes with the new flex tab for 870's)? If so, what are the differences in the new versus old bolt assemblies? Are they interchangeable? Thanks.

What is a flextab and why does it require a new bolt?

Thanks,
Steve

For those of us conceptually impaired, could one of you gentlemen with the flextab post a picture? I have a new Express Magnum HD with the factory mag extension and the carrier doesn't appear to have a U shaped cutout. Thanks.

Looked when I got home and the carried does have a u shaped stamped cutout, now, how exactly is this supposed to help clear the weapon in the case of a round feeding with the bolt closed? Does the tab stamped in the cutout use the misfed round to hold the next round in the mag or what?
