So in this prior thread http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=431500 I gloated about the coolest Mark II I had ever seen. Well today I went and bought it with a piece of my IRS return.

So how did I do? Its a Used Mark II Government Target and my out the door price was $299

I have not taken it to the range yet and I dont know any history on it but so far I like it, the magazine looks like it has significant wear on it so if it give me any issue I may pick up another mag.

I have been told that the barrel comp is aftermarket but don't know anything more.

Also if anybody knows how I can run the serial number to check for a date of manufacture that would be great.

The barrel comp is after market. I had one on my 5.5 inch bull barrel MK II Target. I didn't think it did anything so I took it off and put the original front sight back. I think the comp is a Volquartsen product. I did do the Volquarsten trigger and sear mod to mine which made the trigger excellent.

You got a good deal.

The compensator is indeed aftermarket, made by Volquartsen. The Government Model is one of the most accurate MKIIs around. You did really well. Here's a little more information (http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/2008/11/ruger-hole-punch.html).

Here's my MKII Government.
