Shooting a loaner Sig 220 ST.

Well, Ive shot alot of Sigs over the years. Never owned one..but had my Cousins for about 6 months when he wouldnt give me back my Taurus PT940. I shot the gun and liked it alot.
As most of you know I make custom gun leather. I had a customer say "Heres my Sig 220 ST..I want 3 holsters for it and You can use it for a while if yould like! He added I can shoot it and carry it, if it would help build better holsters for the gun....:what: So of course my answer was...."It will absolutely help!"
Now Im an not the Sig or 45 acp guy like Im known for in regards to CZ's and such. Ive had very nice 45's..Kimbers, 2 STI's, CZ97 etc. So I know what kind of accuracy and function they can offer.
Well I took this Sig for an evaluation shoot last week..and all I can say is.
Very very nice. Its as good in the accuracy dept as any gun Ive shot ever.
It is a BIG HEAVY gun but so were my 1911's.
Reliability is superb..not a hiccup. Every kind of ammo is very accurate with 230gr Hydra's taking the cake....from a rest @ 25 yds..all 9nds were easily within an 1 1/2"...including a semi flyer I pulled. Pretty impressive.
I just wanted to pass on my Sig experience...as I know Ala Dan is chomping at the bit to hear this from me........LOL :neener:
I am not a Sig convert over my Beloved CZ's....but this gun does compare to the best guns Ive ever shot/carried/owned.
Id say both guns have their great points. Most of them being the same.
I love a quality gun.......their are great guns that you shoot well and their are guns that make you a better shooter. This fits into the latter............
Shoot well

Sounds like fun!:)
Does this P220ST have the old or new style rail on the frame?

This has the Compensator rail...I compared it to the new rail gun and there isnt alot of difference in the shape/size of the outline of the guns. I wonder if the holsters would work the same. hmmmmmmmm

I carry my P220ST with the old rail in the same holsters I use for my standard P220's and have no problems.
But those who have the P220's with the new rail are reporting having to search for holsters that fit them well.

In the IDPA National Championships last weekend, Ernest Langdon won the Custom Defensive Pistol division with a Sig 220 ST. Rob Leatham was second using a 1911. I think that says a LOT about what the Sig .45 auto is capable of. Complete results are here: www.idpa.com/matchresults/2003_nationals/nationals_2003.pdf

Well if thats the case I can help. I can easily make a hoslter for the newer style rail gun. If anyone has the new gun and wants a holster for it...email me.

Im checking out the site currently. They seem pretty up to snuff on their information. Maybe a little "biased about the quality of Sigs", not flaming them at all. The guns have a rep. that rivals H&K and the other best of the best. Sigs have earned this rep..as well as the other top dogs as well.
The brand only forums really tend to be this way generally. IMO!
Ill hang out more and learn...I like the guns.
Shoot well.

I think if you'll check the Armorers section you'll see that SIG's have their share of problems and they are accepted. Lots of Beretta and Glock fans there. CZ too.
One of the co-owners of the site prefers to carry a Glock rather than a SIG.
We love him anyway.:D

I was a SIG fan before I acquired my P220ST but after shooting it I became an even greater fan than before. SIG's aren't perfect and neither is any specific brand. But I've had more luck with SIG than any of the others and that's why I like them.
Check out this superb ad featuring 2003 IDPA champ Ernest Langdon and his P220ST in action. Is that cool or what?:D

Ok...thats a very cool pic! Gotta admit.
Dont take my words about the Sig forum the wrong way....I like the forum and they are very willing to help in every way.
Being the Admin on the CZForum we get alot of feedback on the other "Brand only" forums. They are all great in their individual ways and support the guns they should to the best extent they can.
CZ's have a stellar and well earned reputation. As well as any other gun made...IMO. Sigs have the same rep...and have had it ALOT longer here in the states.
I love the 220 ST and the owner of the gun may have a hard time getting it back...although I dont know what Id do with all of the holsters he ordered hmmmmmmmm  :scrutiny:
Ill keep hanging out and get to know the guys......
Shoot well...............

What did you think of the weight of the ST? I found it a tad on the heavy side. Does the added weight help in recoil & follow up shots?

I took my 220ST out this weekend for the first time. It's my second sig after my P225. It's is a tad on the heavy side. I think the weight makes it feel as though there is less muzzle flip. I felt that the muzzle flip was possibly a little less than my Kimber Polymer. The DA Trigger was smoother and felt lighter than my P225. Recoil using 230grn ball was easily managed. 185grain felt like my 9mm. SA trigger is very nice, not up to my STI Trojan, but more than acceptable for me. It looks like this is a definite keeper. Don't know why I waited so long to get a 220. Now I need to get a P226ST....Sigs are addicting. ..almost as bad as 1911s.

What did you think of the weight of the ST? I found it a tad on the heavy side. Does the added weight help in recoil & follow up shots? It's the same as an M1911. The P220 with alloy frame is about 28 ounces, shoots great. In the 10,000 round rapid-fire test, it shot 1.94" groups at 25 yards after the test.

Langdon is now over at Sig. :)
Sigs are addictive. You cant just have one Sig. You need to have one in every caliber. :) 45Boo liked my Sig so much that I had to get another one for myself!

Todd Green from Beretta also defected to SIG. Wonder if the plastic parts drove them away?

Isn't Bruce Gray, formerly of Team HK over at SIG too?
Wonder what mods were done to Mr. Langdon's P220?
