I may or may not have the right gear in time. Thanks for the info!

That's one of the reasons I started this thread. I shot this match last year and its very newbie friendly; lots of advice and equipment sharing and quite tolerant of not quite state of the art 3-gunning gear and technique.

Went there last year and won't be able to attend this year, due to the fact I'm now 2000 miles away :(

It's a ton of fun, lots of really good people and Sven, I went there with my stock Sig P229, my ole 870 and shared an AR with my buddy and did just fine. You don't need the fancy race guns or the tricked out ARs to have fun out there.

What are the rules?

Was that that AR that had a bullet come loose the chamber and filled the action with powder and turned it self into a single shot for the rest of the match?

What are the rules?

I'm not organizing so I cant speak for this year, but last year it seemed the rules were pretty much "get as many people out three gunning as possible to generate enough interest in the Sac. area to make it a more regular thing".

Last year they had Open and Limited classes generally along the lines of USPSA rules. I'd bet that as long as you dont have a optic on your pistol or SG you'd be limited. Since its kind of a newbie match the RO's did a bunch of coaching. We had everything from compact carry pistols to race guns, 870's with the plug out to optical ported SG's, and rifles from a Styer Scout, to a striper fed SKS, to 308 battle rifles to fully tricked AR's.

I'd say if you're even vaguely interested in 3-gun to bring what you have and come out. I'm betting the'll find a way to get you shooting the match.

If you contact the MD I'm sure you could get more info.

Ummm, no that wasn't the AR I was shooting, mine was the one with the busted scope (not known at the time) so I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn much less a flasher at 200 yds! Well I did hit one, but that was just luck. :)

You must have been in the other squad.

I checked zero on the Scout/Squad and the 590 so I'm ready if I dont get any more range time before then. If I do I'll spend it working on my SG reload speed and rifle mag changes.

Can someone go over the equipment needed?

Rifles: Type, calibre, number of mags

Shotguns: Same questions

Pistols: Same questions

I have searched the board and found many different answers about the type of rifle needed. What will work??? Thanks Steve

Rifle- Any type is fine..bolt action, clip fed battle rifle, although a semi-auto AR, AK or Mini 14 is preferred, last year at this match you could put on a scope without being in open class, not sure if thats true this year.

Caliber minimum is .223

Mags- for me the more I have the better (cuz I missed quite a bit), per stage I believe they are going to be around 20-30 rds. You should bring around 150 rds.

Shotgun-I think you need to have a 12ga but I may be wrong, pump or auto are generally used. The really fast guys all had autoloaders, Benelli's or Remingtons. The higher the capacity the better you are.

Type of ammo- 75 rds of bird shot and perhaps 15 slugs

Pistol-minimum is 9mm, semi auto is preferred but revolver can be used.

You need at least 4 10 rd mags, again the more you have the better in case of mandatory reloads or if you miss. Bring around 150 rds of 9mm.

HTH

I'm not going to be able to go, since i have other obligations. I'm not too enamored with the no buckshot thing, and the close rifle targets.

Since it's run by an IPSC club, I'm not sure if it'll be to my liking in other areas.

(Won't be able to make it as that's the weekend after Thanksgiving)

OK, but that was taken out of context. ;)

There's not too much reason to use buck. For paper targets you want slugs since patching nine holes froma buck round would be a PITA. For clays and steel the birdshot gets the job done at a fraction of the price of buck. If you you feel the bird roudns are too unrealistic from a recoil standpoint you're free to use three inchers. ;)

*shrug* the buckshot loads i use recoil less than all but trap loads, and birdshot doesn't take down steel with reliability, especially at the farther ends of the envelope. I think i'm expecting too much.
