I've been reading and learning here on THR for over two years now, partly because I enjoy shooting and also in anticipation for the opportunity to exercise my 2nd amendment rights. I just turned 21, am in college, and am eager to get to it (even though I won't be able to carry most of the time due to the highly intelligent administration of this University:barf:). My girlfriend is also interested in getting her CCW so we are interested in doing the course together if possible.
Being a college student, I don't have much extra cash. The cost of everything is keeping me from doing anything, yet. The $60 application fee in KY, and then the cost of the class, as well as a firearm, holster, carry belt and other gear, practice ammo, all add up very quickly. I'll probably be going for a good used snubnose revolver when I have the funds, I have done my homework quite a bit here and elsewhere on good carry guns.
So what I'm looking for is if anyone has any suggestions for where I can go for the best value CCW class. Note that I am not looking for the cheapest class, because it isn't something I want to inappropriately skimp on, just a good one at a good price. I'm actually not even sure what the run around here. I am in college in Bowling Green, and home is near Lexington, and can drive a reasonable distance for a good course. It will probably have to be at a gun shop where I can rent a gun for completing the course because I won't be able to buy one until summer. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.
I really want to get my CCW before the summer, because I'll be living in CO all summer and won't be able to get it there. I need to get my KY CCW, so I can get to carrying as soon as I can get a firearm, which I would really like to do in CO.
