I have two, an el-cheapo 42mm and a 1" for my Kadet.
If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get one of those micro holographics like a JPoint or similar.

the right red dot turns a good shooting gun into a GREAT shooting gun.. acquisition and accuracy is greatly improved... if you dont mind the look...

It makes a HUGE difference if you are like me and your eyes are letting you down. I can shoot "OK" using 1X reading glasses, but I can shoot as well as I used to if I use Red Dots.

I was just wondering, do you prefer a red-dot scope to a device that projects the laser onto said target for any particular reason?
I think if for no other reason than the bulkiness of the red-dot, I would prefer a laser projection device....and I'm not crazy about the idea of putting a bunch of holes in my 1911 frames...
Thoughts?

I shoot ATN Digital sights on a couple guns and truly do enjoy it. They have held up extremely well.

I recently picked up a 617. The other afternoon I a put a red dot on it, as my old eyes dont like the stock sights, even after I painted the front blade white and put a white box on the rear blade. The BSA red dot I took off my 10/22. The BSA red dot has been very reliable, and pretty accurate on my 10/22, with no zeroing problems.
I hope to try it out in the next week or so. If I like the red dot, I'll probably try and find a micro red dot that weighs a little less. Here's a couple of pics.

I was just wondering, do you prefer a red-dot scope to a device that projects the laser The red lasers are hard to see in daylight. The green ones are OK, but more expensive. I bought a cheapo green laser, but then found out it has no adjusments. :banghead:

The J-Point and the Fastfire have mounts that fit some dovetails on 1911's (http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=50514&d=1167957729), so you would not have to drill holes in your 1911.

1" Ultradots are ubiquitous in the Conventional Pistol (Bullseye) world. (Read ~85%+ would be my guess)
Larry's is the national distributor for Ultradots:

The 9x national champion Brian Zins now uses the Aimpoint Micro after years of shooting Ultradots. They are spendy though ~$500

Note also that you can get mounts that go on frames with rails. They are removable, don't require drilling, and they don't get slammed around with the slide, or affect cycling.

Just bought a new BSA holographic for my 629-6. Will try it out this weekend.
I'm wondering how it will hold up to 44 Mag recoil.

Does anyone use a red dot on your ccw handgun? Any mods to your holsters?

The J Point on a 1911 will fit in a Galco Avenger (http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG3.asp?ProductID=103&GunID=28) holster without mods. I am sure many others would as well, but I know the Avenger will work.
