[Anti-JBT mode]They're protecting the residents by burning their house.[/Anti-JBT mode]

The ATF actually investigates lots of arson cases, one of my highschool classmates is getting ready to graduate as a Fire Protection Engineer, his synompsis of the major is "Burning s*** and writing reports." He's also a fireman in his spare time, I wouldnt be surprised if he applies to work for the ATF upon graduation.

If it doesn't go boom, why would ATF investigate?

Yes, the ATF investigates arson and explosives. If I had my druthers, that's just about all they'd do.

Fire, the new weapon of choice.

I wasn't aware of this. I would appreciate hearing more about it. What fires do they investigate and why ?

Any local fire department of any size has their own arson divison. For those areas that don't have a department with it's own arson divison, they use the state fire marshall's office. I don't ever recall being on a fire where ATF responded, but of course they could have shown up after we left. I have been on other types of calls with ATF, but never a fire.

I know that, but still, "ATF fire protection officer" sounds kinda weird...

If I had my druthers, that's just about all they'd do.

I'd prefer they were limited to driving around looking for dogs and cats walking around without the proper tags. And they'd be unarmed, of course. :)

I followed the links from this picture, turns out its a training exercise in Kinston NC...not too far from me! A bunch of houses were flooded out by hurricane floyd, and then bought out by fema. The houses were burned and used for training fire investigators.

Out of context, the picture is a little unsettling.

If I'm not mistaken, that's either a naked pistol tucked into his belt in the small of his back, or in a very small holster.

Either way, SOB means that for some portion of your draw stroke, you're probably going to be pointing your gun at yourself.

Explosives and Arson... interesting, no?
Check out the other pages on firearms, etc for some interesting reading about bad guys with firearms, etc. being put away.

You know, now that I think about it, I think we got our arson dog from ATF. The handler went to Quantico I think for about three months to train with the dog.
I am still looking at this website to try to figure out what fires they investigate. Maybe fires involving federal government property ? What would make a fire an issue that falls under the auspices of the feds other than that ? I guess a so called "hate crime" maybe ?

Look at these cute dogs. http://www.atf.gov/explarson/canine.htm

This has always been my dream. And it is a dream I will never achieve because I dont' have the political juice to get the job. They would never give a job like that to someone that would be totally and 100% into it, or someone that loves dogs and has experience training dogs. Jobs like this are reserved for some clown that can't do his job as a firefighter and happens to be buddies with a chief or a county commisioner.

IIRC it is now BATF&E ... Firearms & Explosives. Don't know when or why, but recently.

So they were treasury and are now justice? Where do the rules overlap? And wholegally authorized the tranfers!

Much of this almost sounds like the beuracratic B.S. of arming meat inspectors and other non-l!"law" enforcement types

THERE AIN"T NO JUSTICE!

I see that he is doing a good job at protecting the fire, just as his shirt says.

Yes, it is sick that there is a federal job like this.

This is probably a controlled burn of a house where firemen and other agencies learn about how fires burn.

When I was an undergraduate in college, I often worked in the registrar's office to earn a couple of extra bucks and sign up for the classes I wanted without waiting in line. So I got to see students from every major.

Without a doubt, those majoring in FPSE - Fire Protection and Safety Engineering, pronounced FEP-SEE for short, were the most clueless, ill-educated, densest borderline illiterates I encountered.

I don't know whether it was because FPSE had the reputation of being an "easy" course of study and drew the dregs, or if it was because so many of them (about 3 out of 4) were Algerians, but these dopes could barely READ the registration materials, let alone fill them out . . . even by their senior year.

"This is probably a controlled burn of a house where firemen and other agencies learn about how fires burn."

This is quite common. Pretty much every academy we have gets a few houses to play with. They practice forceable entry, searches, vertical and horizontal ventilation, positive pressure ventilation, roof operations, ladder tower operations, use of various tools, stradegy/tactics, warning signs of building collapse, indicators of unsafe conditions, finding your way in an out of a building with no visibility, .................. and fire fighting. They set the house on fire then take turns putting it out. I am sure that fire investigators do the same kind of thing. They burn a house and then investigate the origin and cause.

You can see what appears to be a hose stream on the far side of the structure. This is probably an exposure line or they are using it as a water curtin.

I never had any doubt this was a controlled burn. Its just more fun to make light -- get it? light? -- of the situation.

Don't like my humor? So fire me -- ar, ar, ar.

I refuse to water it down.

Now you can all flame away.

Note to self -- don't give up day, afternoon, or night job.

Shall I assume that your ar, ar, ar is semi-automatic?

If full auto I'd think there'd be no commas.
