I want to get my dad a 1911 for christmas and I noticed that a company named Republic arms had a clone for under $300.

It looked like a military issue 1911A1 in outward appearance.

Are these any good?

The Republic Arms (or Cobra) Patriot .45 is nothing like a 1911. It is more like a Kel Tec. If this is what you are talking about. It is double action only, no manual safety, no grip safety. I have found mine painful to shoot, inaccurate, and unreliable. But it seems to be basically a decent design and of decent quality for a cheap, small .45. Other owners have had better experiences with their Patriots.

Disregard my previous message if you are referring to the Republic Arms of South Africa.

Yeah I think this is of south Africa.

The clone they had looked just like a standard 1911.

It was less expensive than a firestorm or even a sistema.

I don't want ot get it if its loaded with MIM parts and is of crappy workmanship.

Anyone know?

DrakeJake, I wouldnt compare the Kel Tec and Cobra pistols. DUH!!!!!!
Cobra aka Jenning, Lorcin, Raven.

Kel Tecs are much better guns than any of these.

To answer the question. I heard that the "Patriot" is one of "Cobras" better guns.

Ok..Ill do the best I can. The RA guns are sold by Century Arms...I believe the only importer into the states for the guns.

They are true 1911's. They dont have MIM parts in them that Im aware of..could be wrong though. The ones Ive seen and the one Ive shot, were very very loose in its slide/frame fit...and werent the most accurate.

The new guns are supposed to be much better..and about the same price.

If its a glossy blue gun...youre better off getting an CD, RIA or other lower end but decent gun.

If its a darker flat colored gun...see if its got tighter fit and everything works like it should..it may be a pretty decent gun and a very good buy.

Thats all I can offer.............Shoot well
