Nominal barrel diameter...?

I just had a thought pop into my head earlier, and decided to ask the knowledgable people here.:D For a certian type of rifle, about how big is the barrel (OD) where it mates to the action? Like, the remington 700, IIRC, the barrels screw into the action? So how big are they? Are they the same size for most rifle makers, ie, savage, remington, weatherby, winchester, ect? And, i think weatherby vanguards use the same action for their mag calibrs as DG calibers like the .458 WM, no? Do they use the same diameter barrels for that, just with less "wall"? Curious about that,

thanks,

neal

So, in other words, there are no "normal" barrel diameters? Hm. How do you get it to work in all different types of actions? Turn part down and thread it to fit?
Thanks

There is a wide variety of barrel contours, and shoulder diameters (where it meets the action/lug). The barrel tenon area is set up to be cut and threaded for a specific action.
