Anyone have some useful input on the Varmint Grenade? I watch the video a lot but don't believe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYigC49tnh8

I have played with them some. On the other hand I was using them with the wrong twist rate and they key holed the target. Now I Finaly found the right ones. 36 gr. I never shot a grape or tomato eather.

These are definitely the bullet you want if you need to put down some pesky cherry tomatoes!

Did you see the video of the animal exploding? I want that in a .45!

Yep, I will have to remember that next time I want to shoot a grape.

Seriously, it is a great bullet. Barnes is just kicking butt with their projo's.

I keep them in my grape defense gun. You never know.

The core is not lead, but a copper/tin composite. That's why it explodes so easily.

The only reason I thought to try them is because; huntind groundhogs whare houses are not the most visible with trees and ect grown up unlike the fall and winter. Its one more weapon I have with less ricochets to damage something or someone. That also got me thing if I would to try to hit one in tall grass if the bullet would make it to the flesh of the rodent.

Barnes truly makes some really good bullets.

However, my concern would be that the varmint might try to hide behind a tomato or grape for protection. You know, they watch YouTube too.

I love them.

They are some of the most accurate rounds in my 22-250.

not to mention the terminal performance :)

What would happen if you shot a deer or something like that with a varmint grenade bullet?

I wondered that too Afy. I don't think I would want to eat that deer. It would be hard to find all of the copper and tin dust or sand like substance as you are butchering it.

I would say that they would just put a crater in a deer... a shallow one... probably not a good idea....

Barnes originally developed the bullet for military application. It mentions that on their web site, but doesn't say much more. If you're curious, do some more research on it or call them and ask.

I loaded some of these for a friends Ruger #1, 22-250 at a published vel. in the 4200 fps range. He shot a feral cat that was eating his daughter's pet's kittens with one @ under 50 yrds.Al claims a very large entry no exit.

they are really good. and the only barnes bullet i can afford.
can cover a 3 shot 100yard group with a quarter out of a friends 243. and if you ever get a headshot on a coyote with it lets just say it will be a little bug eyed. not too graphic i hope:what:

Afy, I'm at work so I can't surf the whole thing, but here's a page on Barnes military/police bullets. Look for a jacketed bullet with copper/tin composite core, that would be the predecessor to Varmint Grenade. http://www.barnesbullets.com/products/mle-tactical-bullets/

Afy, my buddy tells me it's the RRLP bullet on that link I posted above.
RRLP = Reduced Ricochet Limited Penetration???
Expends all its energy immediately upon terminal impact.
He says the Varmint Grenade includes a hollow cavity under the tip, RRLP does not. Otherwise same bullet.
