I just purchased a Savage 12FV in .223. Everything looks fine except that I notice that the bolt is loose when in the closed position (unlike my Ruger and CZ bolt guns). Is this normal for a Savage?

I am confused as to what loose means? My model 12BVSS is pretty darn solid when closed. Same with my model 110.

Not too good at describing things but what I mean is: when closed, even with safety on, the bolt "handle" (?) can be lifted out of position easily and "wobbles" around (i.e. - has a lot of play in it). The bolt itself, where it engages in the chamber, is solid. Hope that helps.

Savage does not use the same lock up as a ruger rifle. I tried my model 12 and I am not getting that feel. I do to some degree from my 110. It may be worth a call to Savage. www.savagearms.com or (413)-568-7001 good luck

Thanks, I'll give them a call tomorrow. By the way, I'm a Kansas boy, born and bred. Don't know how I ended up in this crazy state! :)

The bolt handle on a Savage is attached with a large screw, maybe it is loose.

Thanks, I'll check that.
