hi, i guess it would be the acme of foolishness to inquire, but i was curious if any of you have had any experience with the smith and wesson 380 sigma? i have been seeing a lot of these little pistols on the used market going for like 75$ to a 100$. i was wondering if they was accurate and reliable? i noticed several of them had some bad scratches on the slide(any reason for that?)
thanks cosmose

There`s a thread about the Sigmas here:

I have an SW380 and like it. It` feeds any bullet type I`ve ever tried in it and accuracy is acceptable for a pocket gun. As for the scratched slide, the finish is not very durable. I have a nasty scratch on mine.

IMO, and I have lots of them :D

Its a great theory without proper thought given to the application.

For a CCW, as the gun was designed, it has major short comings.

Aside from being "as reported by me, having shot a couple of them" and alot of owners" unreliable. The mag release is a trajedy waiting to happen.....two hands to change the mag. Great design for those with 3 hands.....

Sorry....Id get an FEG, Bersa, PPK, CZ 83 or a Jennings before Id get one.

Again, just my opinion....Shoot well.

S&W came out in a magazine and said tha the .380 and 9mm "pocket Sigmas" had a short lifespan.
I'm thinking 3000 rounds, but someone here may know for sure.
They were the least expensive S&W firearms, and were hot sellers when they came out, but apparently were disposable.

I had the 9mm.
Very compact.
Not accurate.
Shot everything I put in it.
After field stripping it once, I vowed never to do it again.
Apparently some of them were good, reliable guns.
Some could never be made to function.

Cosmose,

I would consider it neither accurate nor reliable. There may be the functional one out there somewhere. It is not worth the risk, in my opinion.

one of the worst if not the worst pistols I have ever shot

A bargain at half that price. The mag release is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen on a gun, but since mine hardly ever made it thru a whole mag without jamming I guess that's a minor point. I've only had 3 pistols in my whole life that disappointed me, and the Sigma is by far the worst.
