Robert March 6, 2009, 07:08 PM Personally I prefer the .45. Nothing against the 9mm and no real reason other than I like .45. Run a search, it should yield about a zillion 9mm vs. .45 threads. Bobarino March 6, 2009, 07:09 PM this topic has been beaten to death a thousand times over. employ the search button and enjoy the zillion pages of light and fast vs. heavy and slow debate. Bobby Acheron March 6, 2009, 07:10 PM Is this a joke or are you serious? 'Cause if you're serious you just opened a huge can of worms. IBTL. BrokenButterfly March 6, 2009, 07:11 PM Thank you and sorry for the unnecessary thread. whited March 6, 2009, 07:12 PM Nice wind up. dbarile March 6, 2009, 07:13 PM Shouldn't a siren sound when this question is posted? jbauch357 March 6, 2009, 07:18 PM Every time the following questions are asked, everybody take a shot of your favorite booze. Won't be long till we're all hammered :) 9mm or .40 or .45 better? AR or AK better? GLOCK or XD better? #4 or 00 buck for HD? when will the panic buying end? is rosie a man or woman? how did I get here? ... see, I'm already getting drunk... geronimo509 March 6, 2009, 07:18 PM Shouldn't a siren sound when this question is posted? Yes it should! I know it was a rhetorical question, but i just had to answer it Pizzagunner March 6, 2009, 07:22 PM Both. I can't believe I got to say it first.:neener: geronimo509 March 6, 2009, 07:23 PM I agree with Pizzagunner. Just carry both. A .45 on your hip and a MK9 in your pocket. bikerdoc March 6, 2009, 07:24 PM boring!!!! Johnny Dollar March 6, 2009, 07:29 PM Every time the following questions are asked, everybody take a shot of your favorite booze. Won't be long till we're all hammered Jack Daniels being consumed here. But.... can I do a poll on matching the merits of ALL handgun calibers between .25 and .480 in a life and death struggle situation at 7 yards? Would that be interesting? Just thinking.Maybe too much.:D heron March 6, 2009, 07:36 PM Every time the following questions are asked, everybody take a shot of your favorite booze. Won't be long till we're all hammered If I did that, I'd be buying booze by the case instead of the one bottle a year that I normally go through! Tommygunn March 6, 2009, 07:53 PM I couldn't decide myself, so don't feel bad. My solution: I bought both. Eyesac March 6, 2009, 07:54 PM AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! What round for black bear? AHAHAHAH! Boba Fett March 6, 2009, 07:58 PM THR needs a "caliber war" / "caliber debate" sticky. If you have a question, debate, argument, interest, whatever and you question is something along the lines of: 9mm or a .45. So which is overall a better pick? Then you go to the sticky. If you have a different sort of question, something like "Can 45 or 9mm punch through 5 inches of steel plate?" then you can start a new thread. Everything else goes to the sticky. augustino March 6, 2009, 08:17 PM Visit your local range where you can rent or test fire assorted pistols. Shoot a few 9MM, shoot a few 45 and then decide. AKElroy March 6, 2009, 08:20 PM I can't decide if I want a 9mm or a .45. So which is overall a better pick? Let's settle this debate once & for all. If you were required to take a bullet, which would you prefer the shooter use? Pick the other one for defense. Mad Magyar March 6, 2009, 08:30 PM a .45. That one, if you can afford the ammo. I know many don't practice much and keep a weapon mostly for nightstand use; but either one will serve you well. Like others have mentioned, take each caliber out, including the .380 and you decide for yourself....:) Acera March 6, 2009, 09:02 PM Every time the following questions are asked, everybody take a shot of your favorite booze. Won't be long till we're all hammered 9mm or .40 or .45 better? AR or AK better? GLOCK or XD better? #4 or 00 buck for HD? when will the panic buying end? is rosie a man or woman? how did I get here? loljbauch357 You can add " Can I fire .223 in a 5.56??? " to your list. lol 76shuvlinoff March 6, 2009, 09:06 PM To borrow from a similar thread and bastardize the answer there...... .45 in one hand, 9mm in the other. Air,Land&Sea March 6, 2009, 09:15 PM .45's are twice as good as 9's which is why you only need half as many. Covey Leader March 6, 2009, 09:28 PM Give Broken Butterfly a break. He is a new member here like myself. He posted a legitimate question. If you dont have a constructive answer for him, then why post at all? Congrats to all of you that wasted your time by not only reading this thread but also posting about the "search" function. Plus there are many people who have joined the site since a thread in 2005 about 9mm vs. 45 was posted. Those new members may have something to add. Not all of us are as well versed in handguns as some of you. Thats why i joined this site....to learn from more experienced people. I, for one, am interested in seeing some comparisons between the 9mm and the 45. John Wayne March 6, 2009, 09:49 PM Google returned 3,120,000 results. I'm not trying to be a smartass, but googling well-discussed topics is often more helpful than posting on forums. Geronimo45 March 6, 2009, 10:01 PM Heh. "Here we go again. Use the SEARCH TOOL, newbie." Of course, if said newbie uses the search tool, and posts to an older threat... "THREAD NECROMANCER ALERT!" You can't win. :neener: Shoot both... assuming you can find a place with enough ammo to do so. See what you like better as far as handling, recoil, etc. A great-quality 9mm will probably be cheaper to purchase (new or used) and cheaper to feed than a .45 of comparable quality - something to consider if price is a major factor. Neither one is a magic bullet. That's .22 Long Rifle, which bounces around inside a perp like flubber. :D dudester March 6, 2009, 10:10 PM Split the difference and go for a .40 :D benderx4 March 6, 2009, 10:25 PM Like most of us, you'll probably end up getting both. Good luck! Sagetown March 6, 2009, 11:44 PM Posted by BrokenButterfly:Thank you and sorry for the unnecessary thread. As long as the thread was necessary to you, that's what matters. Someone will help you as did Gus. We all have our favorites. 76shuvlinoff March 7, 2009, 11:37 AM I still say one for each hand so the answer is YES broken March 7, 2009, 03:22 PM ammo price made my choice easier,my brother winces everytime he buys .45 ammo.my dad just called and walmart finally got their ammo in,he picked me some more ww 9mm 100 packs 18.79 a box.my brother paid 17.99 for pmc bronze .45 cheapest he found.good luck either way. ds92 March 7, 2009, 03:30 PM Split the difference and go for a .40 i say split the difference and go for a 10mm!:D
