I sure would like to carry a hammerless gun and I love my 637. I could trade out for a 642 or I can bob the hammer. Have you ever tried it? I'm pretty well versed in the machine shop and I'm looking to give it a try. But I like to learn from others also. Pro's and Con's ???
Thanks, $4

See the following thread, and in particular post #81 for detailed instructions.

One thing: If you bob the hammer also be sure to remove the single-action notch on the hammer. Otherwise you could end up with the hammer cocked and no safe way to lower it.

Old Fuff, that thread has alot of good info, thanks. Do you have an idea on how to refinish the hammer to the original stained look? If not maybe I would you just buff the whole hammer to a polish.

Is you revolver an older one without the lock, or a newer one with the lock and MIM lockwork? No, this isn't an anti-lock/anti MIM question. The older pre-MIM lockwork was color casehardened, and it would be very difficult to duplicate those colors. The newer MIM hammers and triggers are hardened, but the colors seem to be a mottled gray. They also don't take to well to polishing. If you are working with a MIM hammer some cold blue swirled around with a q-tip might do the job. On a little J-frame hammer you won’t have much surface to cover. I have seen jobs where it was simply left bright.

Prob'ly wouldn't need to swirl cold blue around to achieve a mottled look. Cold blue usually mottles naturally.
