Looking for a little help

Hey guys, I've never really introduced myself. I'm a 17 year-old North Carolinian with anti parents but who has enough friends with fathers who served/hunt that I know about and enjoy firearms.

Anyway, we've been given a research paper in school. Pretty open as far as the topic goes, as long as it's debatable. We find a quote on a subject and either support it or refute it. Given recent events and my own convictions, I found Obama's policy to address gun violence, and intend to refute it. I posted it below, and would love some help. If anybody has any quotes or statistics that could help me out with this, I would be grateful, as long as they can be cited and are preferably print sources. If anybody is curious, the teacher is married to a former Marine, so she should be at least moderate or pro-gun.

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

Mods: I know that I'm walking the line here and maybe getting too political. But I figured as long as the conversation stuck to the policy and not the person implementing it, then it's really no different than discussing any other statement or policy out there. If I'm wrong, by all means lock the thread. I simply believed that this would be by far my most effective resource, and certainly had no intention of breaking any rules. Also, if this needs to be moved to another forum, I apologize for posting it in the wrong place.

Can't really help you with the original question, but I will say you have pretty good grammatical skills at 17yo.

A good place to find out about gun laws and bans and everything in between is www.rmgo.org

I imagine you could find some good data at the following:

www.cato.org
www.heritage.org
www.gunowners.org/fs0404.htm

Please come back and let us know how your project goes!

I would honestly choose a different subject. The modern climate in schools and the fact that your parents are "anti" would make your life needlessly difficult.

Life is already difficult - writing a paper on a controversial subject isn't going to break the kid.

I assume this isn't a 20 page response, so you will probably want to focus on one of the policies mentioned in that quote and refute it thoroughly instead of refuting four policies partially.

If you chose that specific quote but go on about general handgun stats, you will probly get a bad grade for not refuting that specific quotation. Find a more general quote for gun control, or even something that bans concealed carry. disproving that should be much easier.
