I'm loading Remington Gun Clubs with 15.5gr 700-X, DR XXL 7/8oz wads, 7/8 oz shot, and W209 primers.

I'm cranking em out, but I've got about 150 Federal 209 (not 209A) primers left over from a few years ago, and I want to use them up. Can I sub them in for the Winchesters? Thanks.

Frank

EDIT: The Hogdon site doesn't have recipes listed for Federal 209s (I checked), and I know Federals are a bit hotter, but I want to get rid of em!

For waht it's worth I'd do it and it should be safe, you're not in the border line of a high pressure load and what little the primer may change the chamber pressure you'd still be in the clear.

All the manuals say not to substitute components. For me, the price of 150 old primers is far less than replacing your shotgun, eyesight, life...

I like using the advice of Richard Lee and use whichever 209 primer I can buy. Having said that though I do not like to use Federal Primers because they are the hottest I have heard. I tend to only use CCIs and W209s which I have heard are the same thing. I also load all my shotshell be they 12 or 20 ga extra light. 3/4 oz loads @1100fps are my norm.

But you do what you want. I am fully aware of the potential ramifications of not following load data to the enth degree. And I really dont care what ridicule I receive for it.
