Hello Everyone,

While I have several years of experience with Aimpoint's line of red dot sights, I have none with the newer Elcan and E-O Tech brands.

How do these compared to Aimpoint?

Thanks for the input.

Elcan? That's a 3.5x combat scope, with a wide objective and of considerably quality, unless I'm mistaken. It doesn't require batteries and is usually quite expensive, in the $700+ range.

Unless you're thinking of a different Elcan. Is it a brand name now?

Check out an EOTECH. I have looked through numerous red dot type sights, and can honestly say that the EOTECH is the nicest I've played with. I liked it so much I got one for my latest AR. I've managed to shoot 1.5 MOA groups with it from a bench, and 3" groups at 50 yards, prone. This from a sight which is not a benchrest type sight, but a quick acquisition type sight. It was easy to zero, seems to hold a zero well, and honestly has made me look like a much better rifle shooter than I am.

I think it's a matter of personal perference, but I prefer the Aimpoint ML2 or M2 over anything else I've tried (Reflex II, EO Tech).

I originally looked at a reflex, but realized you couldn't illuminate a subject AND see your glowing chevron. When a high intensity light (like the M3 on my AR) illuminates a close target, the glowing chevron just washes right out. The EOTech could be set at a higher setting and therefore be seen when aiming AND illuminating. I liked it so much I bought another for my SL8.

The EOTech (AA battery version) has a 500 hour run time, automatic shut-off features (4 or 8 hour), extremely durable, points to target even if the lens cracks or partly shatters, etc... Another fine feature is that it alerts the user when battery life falls to 20% by blinking a couple times when turned on. My favorite feature is the actual "dot." It is a larger circle with a single dot in the center. The circle is GREAT for fast shooting up close, and the dot is perfectly sized for longer shots (100yds.)
