Shotshell Wad and Primer Differences

Hello all,
I am new to this reloading game. I have read everywhere to NOT deviate from a particular formula.

If the formula calls for WAA20F1 (which is no longer available), can the WAA20 be used instead?

The same question goes for the primers - what is the difference between the Winchester, the CCI and the Federal 209's? Are they interchangeable?

Thanks.

Well, I did a little more poking around in this forum and found that indeed, the wads and components are NOT interchangeble.

I still question whether the WAA20 wad is meant to be a replacement for the WAA20F1. Anyone know?

Thanks.

No.

The WAA20 white wad is for 7/8 - 1 oz loads in compression formed cases.

The WAA20F1 yellow wad was for 1 - 1 1/8 oz loads.

Thanks RC.

Guess I'll just keep hunting for the right components.

Downrange and Claybuster make replicas of the wads made by Win, Fed, & Rem, including many that are discontinued. Unfortunately I didn't find the WAA20F1 listed on their websites. There is more variety available for the 12ga.

This http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewforum.php?f=13 may be a better site for shotshell reloading information.:)
