Is it pretty easy to install a Mag extension on an Older 870? I've read somewere about people having problems with the install.
Thanks

The complications arise with the use of a mag tube with those dimples. Older 870s do not have them.
I've done two minus probs. If klutzy ol me can do it, chances are you can too.

Hey Dave, how did you take care of those politically correct dimples on the 870 mag tube?
Or did you convert older 870s without those annoying dimples?

Six 870s here, no dimples.

Do a search to find out about how to remove the dimples. I used a 3/16" drill bit and then had to remove the rest of the dimple and burrs with a dremmel. Be careful to ensure that NONE of the metal projects into the magazine area after you're done.
BTW, the Dimples weren't a bow to political correctness, they were a cost-cutting measure. The dimples keep the plastic spring keeper from rotating which, in turn, keeps the magazine cap from auto-loosening when the gun is in use. The old design used a detent ball in the and ribs on the mag cap. The mag retainer was a separate steel insert. I frankly like the dimpled design from a purely engineering standpoint, but it does make modification of the gun difficult. To sum it up, old guns= ball detent, spring, and separate steel magazine spring keeper; new guns= plastic keeper, no ball detent, no spring, and the same function. Cheap is good.

One other thing of note here is that after the removal of the dimples and installation of the mag extension you may need to use a barrel to extension clamp to keep the extension from rotating loose during firing. Not a problem with the old ball/detent system but has to be addressed with the newer style 870's when the plastic retainer is removed.
