For those who are using H335 for your .223 loads, are you using mag primers or just regular small rifle primers?

I have had good results using standard small rifle primers,H335 powder with Hornady 55 grain bullets.

Regular small rifle primers. What gun are you shooting it in? I've never heard of using small rifle primers in a 223.

Regular rifle primers but I also have a bunch of mag and will rework the load for them in the future.

Regular primers work fine, but for me, the mag primers seem to work a bit better for accuracy work with H335.

Have had really good results with H335 and non-magnum small rifle primers (specifically #400 CCI)

Rancho did you mean to say you've never heard of firing magnum small rifle primers in .223? Your statement is contradictory

I'm shooting them out a colt ar-15 and they seem to do great. Everything has been CCI - 450's. I have not used CCI 400 and thought I might them a try.

I use CCI 450 mag primers with 55gr. bullets and 25 gr. H335, 26 gr. for a SHTF load if I ever need to make it. 25 gr. is great for all-around use - good velocity but not too hard on the brass or gun. The mag primers give just a little more reliability insurance.

Mag primers guys. If you don't, and you ever end up running those loads in below freezing weather(good coyote hunting weather for example), I'll just about promise you you'll have trouble with it.

Woodstock45678, yeah that's what I meant. *magnum*. I'm intrigued though after seeing the post about SRM primers and accuracy with H335, that's my main load for my 223.

The rule of thumb is to develop your Ball (spherical) powder loads with magnum primers because it's harder to ignite than flake or stick powders. Standard primers will work, but can give you erratic results sometimes, which equates to groups larger than the rifle's true potential.
I know there will be someone who disagrees with this because their reloading manual uses standard primers, but this is what I use, and it is common knowledge in the reloading world.

A mag primer and H335 turned my mediocre XM15 into a tack driver. With 335 and standard SR primers 1'' gruops @ 100 yrds. and fliers out to 2" and more.

Another vote for mag primers here too.

I like Rem 7.5's, when I can find them.

I have not really used to Small Rifle Magnums with H335 only, WSR and Fed 205. Now, there are manuals that do say that spec out a SRM for their data.

Very interesting, I'm gonna go buy some SMR primers and try 'em out for my 223. Oh wait... I can't find primers ANYWHERE!
