870 version I wasn't aware of.

Hello all,
In my quest to find the right HD shotgun, I just returned from a gunstore/range that had an 870 Synthetic Express (18" barrel) that had a full length tube on it. I asked if it was an add on and was told that it was a standard item and it wasn't the police version either. This version is not listed on the Remington web site. They were asking $319 for it which puts it in the same range as the Winchester Defender I have been looking at. I just thought I would pass this information along in case someone wants an 870 but doesn't want the hassle of removing the dimples and adding an extension tube. Take care, Mike

Sounds like the 870HD. Not advertised, but Gun R US has one for about that price.

That model can be found around Dallas gun shows for near or below that price. FWIW, I saw my first example of that variant at a show last Dec for about $ 280... I was so shocked by the price that I thought it was a dealer scam, and bought a rebuilt Wingmaster for $325 out the door. I feel like I got a good deal on my WM, but the HD is a bargain, and can be found for near $300 locally at shows. If I was looking for another 870, I'd give it the once or thrice over...
Best regards,

I found an 11-87 set up like that NIB for under three bills here at a gun show. If I didn't already have a shotgun I would have bought it.

Here's the page: Rem. 870 express ext mag tube (http://www.davidsonsinc.com/consumers/subsites/inven_product.asp?dealer_id=532223&item=5077&instock=all&manufact_combo=Remington&mod_ser_combo=870&category_combo=None&model=870&g_type=None&act_type=&finish_type=None&calib_combo=12+Gauge&sight_class_combo=None&price_range=None&left_handed=&youth=&Offset_rec=0&num_rec=50&item_num=)
I also saw one of these at a show recently.
Anyone have one? Pro's/ Con's?

I have one and I like it a lot. I also have a Remington Police 870 that was made in 1993 (I bought it used earlier this year). They both have performed well, but I do not have many rounds through either.
The only con is the PC safety. I intend to buy an oversized Wilson safety to replace it as soon as I am able.

I own a Remington 870 Express HD. Bought it new for $275. At the time Remington was also giving a $25 rebate. So I got it for $250. The only thing I aded to it was a Tac Star 6 round side saddle.

They're a good shotguns, TMC arms has them for $249 regularly (even though they say sale price), and occasionally for $229, +15 shipping, add in the FFL and they are not a bad deal.

I just picked up one a few months ago for $259.99 out the door at the local Bi-Mart here. While the box said 7 round model they neglect to mention thats 6 in the mag and the 7th up the tube......but for the price....

Will I be able to put aftermarket acessories on this one?
Or are there any that I can not?
I'm assuming this, like the other express series, has a steel reciever?
Is the safety and trigger guard plastic, alum., or steel?
Anything else I should know about this model? Pro's, con's?
Thanks :)

The Express HD has a steel receiver and synthetic trigger guard. I think it is a great shotgun.

All 870 receivers are steel.
The Expresses take a little more time to smooth up, but become just as smooth as Wingmasters.
All accessories will mount OK, but....
Shoot the thing as it is now. Exceptions, get the trigger under 4 lbs if it needs it and the stock fitting right.
After a few hundred rounds, you'll have a better idea of what's needed and what's not...

If I get one, the only thing I'll put on it will be a sidesaddle.
But you never know...
I always wanted an infra-red ryder- laser guided- teflon coated heat shield pygmy spider monkey launcher... in 12 GA. of course...oh yeah, rails, I need lots of rails... for my cup holder. :D
But really, thanks for the info.
