Okay, so i was browsing through some catalouge, and i saw horndays new compact scale, with a 1500gr capacity. It is $35??? Basically, what is the difference between this and something like the RCBS 1500gr scale? There is a $200 difference, so there has to be something. I am starting to reload with a friend, and i also need a large capacity scale for other projects. here they are:

As long as it's from a reputable company you will be ok. I have had the lyman scale for years, and just bought a cheap digital scale to cross check it... it was right on the money. Friend has the RCBS scale it it was on to. good luck.

I can tell you from experience that a cheap digi that runs on batteries is less accurate, and you will not even know it. The current doesn't flow constant, and you will be wondering why it is jumping a 1/10th all the time.

I moved to a Lee powder scale, and have loaded more accurate ammo with it, and it has a 1/20th +/- tolerence.

The RCBS with a powder adapter to a wall outlet would be the better choice.

The RCBS has a .1 gr accuracy. The Hornady doesn't list accuracy. But still, $35 is suspiciously low for an electronic scale. And I couldn't find that model scale listed on the Products Group of the Hornady website. So perhaps you give a call to Midway to place an order and find out if that's an error...if not, buy it!

BTW, the RCBS scale is listed at $172.99 on Cabela's about $60 less.

Hornady just introduced it about a year ago or so. Unknown so far as to quality or accuracy.

rcmodel--that is the link i saw, but it was in paper form....

I have seen that hornady doesn't put new products on their site for about a half year to a year, like when they came out with .338 LM ammo.

So for now i should stick with the RCBS, i need that extra accuracy. Whatever that margin may be.....

For $35 what do you think the chances are it's made in China?

I have no more patience with disposable items.

I use the Lee Safety Scale that came with my Classic Turret kit. I bought a $30 digital scale from Midway last year, and basically use it to check my Lee when setting up for a new load. I prefer the manual Lee, and have no problems with it. I don't know how much they cost, but I'm sure it's not much.

buy a RCBS 1010 and have a great scale that will work the rest of your life, hassle free.
