Stripped threads on 10/22 receiver

I recently purchased an almost NIB deluxe 10/22. It came with a scope mount and screws, and when I tried installing the mount, I noticed that one of the screws wouldn't tighten all the way down. When I removed it, a noticed a tiny sliver of aluminum (I think the receiver's made of aluminum) spiraled around the threads. It looks like I stripped the threads in that hole. Is this something Ruger should remedy, or what would you guys suggest? Thanks.

Unless it came from a dealer then there's no way to tell if it was faulty from the factory or from a heavy handed previous owner. If you bought it from other than a gun store as new then I think you're going to be looking for someone that can helicoil that receiver for you.

Aluminum is VERY easy to cross-thread. You can also ream the hole up and rethread it for #6 threads. Any gunsmith should do this for you for around $12 or so. One of my 10/22's has a stripped hole. I just leave that screw out. It's a plinker anyway.

Based on the responses, I'm thinking maybe I just leave it be, or put some loc-tite on it. I bought a two-piece weaver mount set. With 3 tight screws, it should be rigid enough for plinking.

You'd be better served with a 1-piece solid mount.
A single screw in one of a 2-piece mount is not so hot an idea.
Won't matter much at all with a 1-piece base.

RC, Is there a particular brand of solid mount that you'd recommend? Thanks.
