I was very impressed with a fellow club member's gun -- a 4" blue GP100. Any idea what the general price range is for the 3" GP100 in blue and stainless? He mentioned they were cheaper than S&W but by how much?

Hi Mastrogiacomo,
I'm getting ready to buy a GP100 and I can get either the 3" or 4" stainless for $389., still haven't quite made up my mind  . I wouldn't think you should have to pay more than $430 tops for a stainless version. I'm not up on the blued prices. Take care, Mike

I have a S&W 686 4" that I bought used. I couldn't get over how much lighter the GP100 4" was in comparison, and the trigger was out of this world. I'm sold on Rugers after that experience....:D

The GP100 isn't actually lighter than the 686 it just feels that way to you because of its balance. I have a 586 and I feel the same way that you do, the GP100 just balances better in my hand and feels lighter. Not everyone is going to agree with that perception and some may find the exact opposite to be true. I still love my 586 and wouldn't give it up but I do need a GP100, or two. :D Mike

I won't ever sell my 686 either. I love the feel of the Ruger though -- not sure about the autos -- he offered to let me shoot that too but I'll take my Berettas any day. The GP 100 was a dream to shoot...can't wait to get a few!:D

Prices are about the same down here in LA (Lower Alabama) as they appear to be in Phoenix. I have the KGP141 (stainless and 4" tube). Use it, stock for steel plate competitions. The first time I competed with it one of the good ol' boys said 'You shot that well with a Ruger GP'. He also had one and apparently only carried it as a snake gun.
The trigger, to me, is as smooth as a Smith's (also have a Smith 686 and 66) in both single and double action shooting. I don't think you can go wrong with one of the GPs.

the GP100's are generally considered more robust than the L frame smiths arent they?

Yes.
As far as price, NIB they typically run $399 - $450 here in Northern Virginia. Gunshows will have them for about $50 less. An importer has purchased GP100s from a Canadian LEO org and have been selling them. My wife bought one from SOG for $229. I saw two at the gunshow his weekend with 3" barrels from that same importer for $249. This batch are all DAO and have fixed sights and 3" or 4" barrels.

Here in S.E. PA, the 4" stainless models sell for around $379. I bought my KGP-141 (4' stainless, full lug, adj. sights) used but never fired for $269. You can usually find good used ones for around $239. I haven't seen a 3" model in any of the shops I frequent.

Mastrogiacomo,
I'd recommend Collector's Firearms in Stoneham or Four Seasons in Woburn about equally (see Jack at Collector's or Carl at Four Seasons) and I believe they have GP100's for around $400.
Charlie, Mike or Chuck at Roaches Sporting Goods in Cambridge will list the guns a bit higher, but you can talk 'em down:D . Get talking to Charlie about how much you love old Iver Johnson "Skeeter" .410 double guns and he'll practically give you a Ruger:cool: .
Anyway, I'm an S&W groupie but must admit that WRT current production, the GP100 looks really, really nice comparatively. I'm thinking of getting one to throw in my trunk, for occasional use as a tire jack:D

I'd give the nod more to Four Seasons. Carl usually has the best prices and that's where I picked up my three Berettas and 686 (used). I'd like to pick up a 3" Ruger when I go by for the 92 Brig Inox....Thanks for the price range.
