Refinishing Synthetic Stock...

The basic question is....howto?
I've got one of those crappy factory black flake paintjobs from SA, and the warranty service is 6 WEEKS :what: :what: so I want to evaluate my options before I ship her out.
Anyone with knowledge on this care to comment?
Alternative: Anyone know of a good source of synthetic m1a stocks that won't cost a bazillion?

Why not pick up a couple of M14 surplus stocks(thats all the SA stocks are) and a can of Brownells Aluma Hyde II. I've done a couple of M16 furniture sets with it and its held up well and looks great. Doesnt look like paint when its cured, more like it was made that way. Works well as a base for other paint jobs too. I've seen the M14 stocks for as cheap as 10 if you look around.

http://www.northridgeinc.com/m14.htm towards the bottom, $10/set
The standard butt plate will also fit your SA stock if you dont like that recoil pad.
