I looked at a rifle today at the local gunshop and can't remember what it is....
It is a bolt action magazine fed (single stack) in .308. It was used, with scope, and priced at $350, if that will help any.....
ideas?

Wow... that could be one of literally dozens of rifles.

Yea, I figured....:uhoh:
It was an American brand (one of the biggies), if that helps. I plan on poking my head back in the shop on the way to work tomorrow.
Start naming names...and maybe it'll jog my poor memory....

After some searching on the 'net, I think it might damn well be a Remington 788.....

Winchester Model 70

Savage Model 110

Remington Model 700

Ruger Model 77

Those are the 4 big models right now.

There are other models by the same manufacturers -- either no longer in production, or other models in the lines -- but the ones above are the flagships.

Mike, those four have single stack magazines?

Howabout a Russian LOS 7-1?

A little more info on the 788's that may help. The bolt is unpolished (blued, not silver), the magazine release is on the magazine, not the rifle, the safety is a two position on the right side of the receiver, and when pushed foreward of the firing position, the bolt can be removed, the stock is usually very plain, as is the rest of the rifle.

Hope this helps, and btw, I love my 788.

OH! Single stack magazines...

Wow.

Did the 788 have a single stack?

I thought it had a staggered feed.
