Identification is easy, That is a Marlin .410 Lever Action Shotgun.
No joke, that is what it is called.

Came in 26" barrel long version and 22" barrel carbine version.

Full choke, 2 1/2" chamber, don't try shooting 3" magnums in one of these, and still useful today.

Guns were made between 1929 andf 1933 and are somewhat collectable now.

From the good pictures I am guessing yours might bring around $750 through a good auction house retail value wise.HTH

If it was your dad's gun, please think long and hard before selling it. IMO it's a family heirloom that should be cared for, used lovingly, and then passed down to future generations.

They were given away with a $100 stock purchase in the Late 20's and early 30's.
I think it is worth around $1000, maybe a little more. They are pretty rare.

I have handled one and it is pretty sweet. Marlin makes one now (or did very recently) but it has a heavier contour barrel and feels more like a rifle. The original (like yours) feels like a shotgun, as it should.
You might check out Marlinowners.com. They would love to see it there and there are collectors there that could help more.

I have a buddy who recently purchased a marlin 49, he called it his "winter project"
